I did some sniffing today and had two WOW experiences. Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan and Interlude Man by Amouage. As I type this, I'm wearing Ambre Sultan on my left arm and Interlude Man on my right.
Ambre Sultan is smokey yet sweet. It's almost edible and, at times, almost caramel-ish. Almost too sweet, or perhaps too syrupy, for my tastes. But the opening wows me and deeper into the drydown, it wows me again.
Interlude Man seems almost fiery to me. Yes, it's smokey, but initially, it wears as if the fire is still burning. It's more challenging yet it seems to command more of my attention - in a good way.
Obviously, Ambre Sultan is much cheaper. Interlude Man is one heck of a splurge. But if they were the same price... but...
...if you were only judging them based on factors like
- how they smell
- how they wear
- versatility, and,
- how much other people like them on you
...which would YOU choose?
