Silver Iris Mist vs. Dior Homme

I wore Serge Lutens Silver Iris Mist yesterday. I think the iris is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Dior Homme. The iris in SIM is earthy and dirty. It reminds me of working in the garden; a combination of fresh cut stems and soil. The iris in DH is very sweet, and I do get the 'lipstick' vibe. I like them both, but I wonder if SIM would be better with something sweet to balance its earthiness.

Iris Silver Mist is fatal. I can not wear it. I appreciate it from apart. Raw and metallic.

Dior Homme edt is beautiful. Especially the older version. Powdery and subtle

Love both just the way they are. The iris is strong in DH, but ISM takes it to another level.

Both are incredibly well made in their own right. They each serve a purpose. I prefer DH, as it is more versatile and easily wearable.

Making ISM sweeter would miss the point. Don't we have enough sweet, powdery irises?

It doesn't make any sense to compare these two just because they have dominant iris notes. Iris has many facets, and each of these builds on different ones.

This is sort of like starting a "Nahema vs. Egoiste" thread.

I think you're right in your assessment of the two being irises at the opposite end of the spectrum. In the end, it's a matter of taste, ISM is famous exactly because it is a no-holds-barred rooty carroty iris.

If you want to try some irises that are still suitably rooty, but more friendly than ISM, you can check Le Labo iris and, smoother still, Chanel La pausa.
