Your most expensive blind buy

Thread Starter
What is your most expensive blind buy? How much did you pay and why did you choose to buy it blind?
Amouage EPIC Man 100ml can't remember but around £180 I guess
post #3 of 73
Millesime Imperial directly from the Creed Boutique (back in my earlier days). I think it cost $285.

Invasion Barbare (best blind buy I've ever made). It was $260.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT!

I lied! (Unintentionally)

Somebody resurrected an IB thread I started back in 2011 and apparently I sampled Invasion Barbare for a MONTH before I bought it. For some reason I thought I bought it blind. I did not.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Here *hands back cool points*

*hangs head in shame*

*tiptoes away from post*

And more recently, Norne and Pear + Olive by Slumber house (also good blinds). $115 each.

I'm more reserved these days. When it comes to expensive bottles, I'm more likely to sample. But anything under $75, I'll go blind after reading a couple of well written reviews.

LDDM was my most expensive blind buy at $106. I couldn't be happier with it. Bought based on hype and all the positive reviews.
Pure Havane and Pure Malt, both at around $96, couldn't be more pleased.

Very nice method of shopping!

You are a brave man. These are some pretty impressive blind buys.

nothing too high for me so far. DHI was mine at around $80. best blind buy for me so far. i dont mind blind buying now, awhile back it was just like taking shots in the dark, now i have (sort of lol) a guess at what i may or may not like based on notes and various reviews.
Aventus $175.00. Worth every cent!
I have never BB anything over $60. I'm not much of a gambler.
Clive Christian No. 1 Pure Parfum over $1000 (can't remember the exact amount)
Amouage Dia Man. 240 ish usd - easily worth it. Love it!
Bond No. 9 - Harrods Oud

$340 directly from Bond No. 9

Don't remember why I bought it blind - but I regret that one. Not my cup of tea. Oh well.

A couple dudes hyped it up ridiculously. Maybe that's why?

And dumb for buying directly from the Creed Boutique. I could have gotten the same thing for less than half the price at several other places online.

Well, at least it's a good batch. But those Creed atomizers drain your juice fast. I've had to stop using it for a while because it was disappearing so quickly.
homage ...was 225 GBP.....and am ready to repeat it i think one cant go wrong much with these
post #17 of 73
By Kilian 'A Taste of Heaven' €175, and very pleased with it.

L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme by Guerlain - price was between $40-$45 via amazon.com

Wanna get rid of it?

i bought a*men pure malt for $190 from UK... which i regret... then i saw they are selling at thierry mugler online store for $89....
i like pure malt but i wouldn't spent that much money on that.... anyway shit happens...
now im thinking of buying dior homme intense & l,instinct de guerlain extreme..... i dont know if i should......
want something for going out....
With samples being at my finger tips and being so inexpensive I've quit blind buying. The most expensive was a Cartier for 80 dollars that only lasted 30 minutes on me. That cured me of the blind buy.
Can gladly say that I'm not sure, usually sample anything expensive before buying.
Pure Malt for me too. It was a nice fragrance, but not for me, so I sold it not long after.
L'artisan Parfumeur Tea for Two. I chose to blind-buy it because as you know it's been discontinued and the local stores are all sold out. I paid $145 before taxes and shipping. It's in transit now! I hope I like it!

I bought both of these blind (though I had tried regular Dior Homme a time or two before I bought the intense version), and of the two I would recommend the DHI if you want one for going out. More versatile IMHO.

Creed Bois De Portugal from Creed. Not a great move that one.........

6 differnet amouage attars, Xerjoff Fiero Regio Zafar, Vetiver Pour Elle...

But I'm pretty good at knowing what I'll like.
Guerlain Derby, because of all the love it gets from fellow BNers. Not a single regret either :-)
Probably LIDGE and DHI. I think I tried everything else first that's over $100.

That may have been a factor - Actually if you like that kind of Oud, it would be great - just a little to "much" for me.

An unopened vintage bottle of Givenchy III for $166 and Acqua Di Parma Iris Nobile for $164 - both gorgeous and worth the risk.

I admire all those sensible souls that sample, sample, sample, but really I would never buy a full bottle of anything if I sampled, because then it's a known quantity. I even drag my heels over repurchasing stuff that I know I love. It's like buying dishwashing liquid. Obviously I've got a bad case of novelty-itis, which sits right up against a bad case of full-bottle-itis.

Conversely if I did overcome my need for risk and novely, and wanted to purchase a full bottle of my sample, I'm then paranoid about the samples being the same as the full bottle, since I now have an inbuilt expectation of what it should smell like.

And on it goes - that's just the tip of the iceberg as to how and why 'conflicted' persons such as myself buy what we buy.
Hmm... I bought several fragrances at once, all blind. Total around $170.

L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme
Azzaro Pour Homme
Paco Rabanne Pour Homme
Rive Gauche Pour Homme

Love all of them.
YSL M7 at about ~105 USD

Honestly, I can see the hype and the depth of the fragrance but the opening is excruciating. Also, as a 23y/o, the fragrance as a whole is very, very situational. I can see myself wearing this as I age but since I'm asian it'll probably be associated with the medicinal-asian stereotype... I definitely should have sampled. I regret this buy but take solace in the fact that its price has inflated to about ~170USD now.
For me, it was 2 bottles of Creed. Bois du Portugal and Royal Oud.
Love them both. $180 each.
Amouage - Jubilation XXV... £140 for 50ml - after much hmmm-ing and ahhhh-ing, and research and reading many reviews, I decided the 1st Amouage I (blind) buy would be this - and so glad I did!!

Also, blind bought TF - Neroli Portofino & Tobacco Vanille together, so I suppose that's the most expensive at £250 for 100ml (£125 each for 50ml). That was a real nervous trigger finger...!!! Again, so glad I did.

Living far from any decent places to try and test fragrance, I find I usually have to buy blind... Nearly all of my buys have been blind - and so far, only one or two have been duds (cheap ones thankfully!!).
Creed Windsor I. $405 for a leather atomizer. At first I was disappointed - seemed way heavy on a "Ben-Gay" vibe - but my appreciation of it has grown considerably since then. Glad I took a chance on it.

Another pricey blind buy: Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille. Very, very happy with this one.

Good investment blind buy: a flacon of Creed Cuir de Russie. The fragrance has its charms, too.
Probably Green Irish Tweed. Think it cost me about $140.
M7. And it was worth every penny.
I have 3 that cost a bit baught blind. Vintage M7, Harrod's Oud and LIDGE. Also MKK and Cedré. Can't think of any others but there must me at least one more. I usually sample first unless I come upon a great deal on a highly rdspected scent.
Fille en Aiguiless by Serge Lutens (Decant)
It worths every penny.
Clive Christian X for Men + presentation box for around $200. It was a steal I couldn't resist.
Vintage Derby for $320
Invasion Barbare $260
Mona's Oud $400
Vintage Diorling in amphora bottle $270
All these beasts DO worth it
So far it's the $139 I spent on Windsor (50mL). I have yet to wear it much, but it seemed decent.
Pure Malt, it sounded like something I would have liked.
Musk Gazelle by Ajmal. Over a 100 including shipping.
Jubilation XXV and Versilia Vintage Ambra Mediterranea (both 100 ml).
I am just a passionate "blind buyer" ;-)
Some high(er) end frags that I've probably bought blind are..

L'Anonyme ou OP-1475-
Jubilation XXV
Aventus
Chergui
Both of my L'artisan Ps
Frapin 1270
Emir
5-6 Bond No 9 frags
and another/others? :P
