Guerlain Vetiver Arrived

First, Just got the package from the UPS guy. Immediately I noticed that the box was busted and the innards was exposed. I took the package in and opened it. The Vetiver box was distressed in the upper half region. Should I be concerned about this? A return is only warranted if the box is unopened. I'm afraid to open it at this point because I don't know the condition of the bottle. This came from the Boutique is Las Vegas.

Second, I received samples of Vetiver to try, Imperial and Heritage. There appears to be something skanky in Heritage. All this is premature and initial impressions, mind you. Imperial is a beautiful citrus but terribly fleeting. In 5 minutes, it has already disappeared. I'd have this if it lasted longer. In Vetiver, the vetiver is rooty but not pungent like in vintage formulations. This has been reworked and it brighter, fresher, and more crisp and has lost the earthy, old world mineral qualities that I seem to have remembered. The tobacco is not prevalent to my nose yet, which is a good thing since the tobacco note is what I found off-putting in the vintage version.

Open it. If the bottle is damaged I'm sure Guerlain would send you a replacement.

Okay, here goes. I will open it! Update on the Heritage. I love the dry down. That dirtiness left and reveals a warm, woody, powdery classic. Question is, can I suffer through the top notes..

....and the bottle is fine! Yay! Just doused myself in it.

Congrats! Enjoy it...

I bet that you will come to love those top notes... just a hunch though!

I have 4 sprays of Guerlain Vetiver on. I'm thinking that it might be hard to overdo this one. How many sprays do you all typically perceive as a good amount for this considering it is on the light side and kinda close to home?

Do you have the edt or edp of Heritage ? I love the edp ! But it is a good scent if either form.

Good to hear that it was a happy ending. I hate smashed boxes, scratched bottles/labels, etc. Especially when I pay full retail. I want to be the one to ding up the box and crack the lid - or whatever. I too picky I guess.

It's the edt from a sample.

I barely perceive it with 4 sprays. Maybe 6 will do lol

Glad it turned out OK for you!

Maybe you would prefer Etro's Vetiver ? It is more rooty and harsh to my nose.

I find 4 sprays, 2 to chest, 2 to wrists & neck, is more than enough for me to smell it for 10 or so hours.

Any advantage to getting it from the boutique besides the samples? I see amazon has a small bottle of Vetiver for about $31 shipped.

I will have to try Vetiver again. I have been wanting to purchase it since I was on my honeymoon in Bermuda in 2004. Maybe because I was in a "tropical" area but I always associated the last formula of Vetiver as fresh, crisp and bright. A few weeks ago I tried the new Habit Rough square type bottle and it was drier and less fresh and bright. Weird.

I have a bottle of Heritage in transit which I really liked when I tried it at NM so hopefully I will get it soon.

I buy retail because I won't have to question integrity as you see so many threads here devoted too.

Enjoy! Vetiver is still a classic that can hardly go wrong - especially if one already likes other Guerlain frags. With all reformulation and/or repackaging, this scent has "aged gracefully", kept its simple, understated crispness and suaveness.

If you think the Heritage edt is skanky, just wait till you try the edp. There are very few frags that are too skanky for me, but Heritage edp is one of them. Love the edt however.

To join in here, I'll say that I really like the EDP ! Perhaps that makes me skanky But I just find it deep and warm that it comforts me . Actually, I am surprised you thought it was too skanky, judging by your tastes.

Yup, that's about right. Wonderful, joyful stuff it is too.
