Masculine Florals

As I've been venturing into the world of scent, I've been semi-consciously targeting specific groups to help my collection grow. Earlier in the winter it was gourmands, lately it has been citruses and incense, and now I have moved to gloss over the world of masculine florals. I've noticed after wearing Invasion Barbare and Reflection Man that florals are not something to be afraid of, and do not make a fragrance feminine (as it is thought by most outside of the fragrance world).

So, I was wondering, outside of the two I mentioned, what masculine florals should I try? I'm not a huge fan of tuberose (as seen by Beyond Love by Kilian), so perhaps omit that. IB and RM on the other hand I love, if that helps.

EDIT: I probably should mention I also own and like Windsor and a sample of Noir de Noir. Oh, and I also own Neroli Portofino and like it a lot (don't really need another neroli though).

Check out Trumpers Sandwood fragrance as you get a wonderful rainbow array of florals of Rose, Jasmine & carnation and it smells really good. It reminds me of a more wearable version of Creeds Royal Delight and it is often compared to Egoiste just for the similiar rose note. But I like this better, I find it to a real laid back fun and colourful scent though it's pretty light on the Sandalwood if you can detect it.

A good place to start, CDG2:



The aldehydes hit quite hard at the top and then it settles down into a soft vetiver IIRC. I find it very similar to Lanvin's Arpege which can be picked up for a song.

With the possible exception of tuberose, I believe any soliflore - carnation, lilly of the valley, rose - can be worn by a man. The more realistic the better. Think a flower plucked and stuck in a shirt pocket...

I like masculine florals a lot. I'd single out the discontinued Insense, in part Caron Troisieme homme, and Paco Rabanne Metal. I also second Arpege.

Then there are the true Amouage florals (not Reflection, which is not a floral primarily), such as the wonderful Gold man, as well as Lyric and Epic.

Not sure why you would have been hesitatant about florals when you have been rocking a rose scent like NdN, never the less im sure everyone can give some great recommendations but word on the street is the new Amourage Beloved Man is shaping up to be an excellent masculine floral, could be worth investigating

I'd consider Reflection much more floral than Epic Man. All I get from that is myrrh, incense, saffron threads, and some cherry, whereas Reflection on my skin is dominated by a soft jasmine.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. As for the NdN thing, it's sort of a guilty pleasure scent. I rarely wear it out.

If i were a man i would have Ormonde man as my everyday office fragrance, it is that good, its called woody floral, and pepper note is so subtle like initial on a towel: m for masculine:-) , it can not be missed for an f

Reflection i dont consider masculine, when i first tried it i thought its some feminine scent....so girly

How about Azzaro Acteur, its some rose, but masculine i never tried just think that may do well ?

I have actually been enjoying this lately as well. Created by MFK, in the dry down I get hints of his Absolue Pour le Soir, which is a more well known creation of his.

On the MFK note, I would also suggest Lumiere Noir, which is an absolutely stunning rose based scent.

Urban Musk by Tom Ford is a really great Jasmine centered animalic frag. I also have a bottle of Black Orchid by TF on the way, which contains a lot of florals.

I second Le Troisiémme Homme, Fleur du Male and Jardin du Nil, and could also suggest Iris Bleu Gris, Eau des Iles, Parfum Sacré, Oud Ispahan, Van cleef pour homme, Vitriol d'Oeillet, Or des Indes, Acteur, Black Orchid, Mitsouko.... there are several frags that are sold as feminine that aren't girly at all.

I'm currently really enjoying "Geranium Pour Monsieur" (Got the EduP FM Coffret set recently)

The balance of the geranium and mint is perfect, it's very distinctive, and I get good longevity.

Definitely going for a FB for summer.

I'm a big fan of Czech & Speake No 88 - it has a really nice rose, and a touch of frangipani that I think takes it to another level.

Le Labo - Rose 31 My favorite. Its an amazing spicy rose.

Kurkdjian - Aqua Universalis Forte. Great masculine floral bomb.

Kurkdjian - Amyris. Boozy floral (best i can describe it)

Kurkdjian - Cologne Pour Le Soir. Dreamy, powdery roses.


If you want something a bit lighter, maybe more unisex, i love Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit. Perfect for warmer weather.

My nose is for Bel Ami.
I don't know how it does this, (almost magically) but it gradually transcends from leather to the most beautiful floral imaginable ~ over a period of about 7 hours. Most perfumes work the other way round and end up with a leather drydown, but not this one.

Could not agree more. The frangipani and to a lesser degree the geranium accompany the rose in a big way. Decidedly masculine. The only thing with frangipani in it that I own. Not a very common note, huh?

A couple of IMO masculine florals come to mind: Aramis 900, Van Cleef & Arpels PH and Ungaro III

I sampled this via a kind BaseNoter... was not crazy about it (UJSLT). Nice opening, yet followed by some detergenty-dirty mid- and basenotes, to my nose.

Among various generations of Tribute by Amouage, the first one (white box) was best described as a floral. Indeed the precious rose was "surrounded" by incense smoke, but not overwhelmed by it. The next Tribute I had - brown box from circa end 2010-beginning 2011 - had the rose muted and the smoke (a tad more cigarette-y) stronger... yet it was still very good, only not really a floral.

I am not familiar with more recent batches of Tribute.

Insense and Jardin du Nil already mentioned receive a further recommendation by me. Both feature in my arsenal, and of the two probably Insense is my preference because rose (which features prominently in the MPG frag) is not usually what I go for in a male scent. However this rose is a dirty one which works for me and may do for you!
