Would definitely suggest reevaluating La Nuit De l'Homme! Besides that, Dior Homme Intense (New formula works just fine. I have both, don't fall into all the hype about the old one)

Also Chanel Allure Homme Sport. It has a fresh/citrus vibe which is good for the hot summer days, and also features the original Allure Homme in it's backbone to give it a warm and woody vibe for winter.

I second Aventus, Dior Homme Intense, and Bleu de chanel.

You cannot go wrong with any of the three.

First of : the whole compliment getter thing is what got me interested in fragrances too, so I get that point of view but I suggest you take a step back first and do some research. Marketing people know that there are men who want compliments so going by reviews online blindly is not the best strategy. Second : it depends on which culture you live in but where I live the ladies don't give compliments like that, they will compliment you sure (like once every year :-) but think about it, if you know how women are : they can be flirty sometimes too but most of them are passive in their approach so don't believe that when you put on a fragrance they will come to you to give you a compliment, their number and a kiss on your cheecks. If that was true the fragrances would be alot more expensive! :-)

That being said : the thing that I can advice you is to go to the store and smell some samples based on reviews you see here or on youtube. Another thing I advice you is to smell the fragrance (not like 5 or 6 at a time if not you may just buy what smelled better then the ones you smelled just before that), but like 2 or 3 maximum, then choose the one you like and spray a little on your hand and clothes but don't buy it instantly.

You can let a girl that your interested in be the judge when you meet her later on if you want. That way you can find out if she has the same taste as you and it's a conversation starter. But don't buy what others find to be really good fragrances or what other women tell you they like, you have to like it yourself first. Don't buy a fragrance neither if a female salesperson tells you this really suits you... I did that 2 years ago and still haven't worn the scent more then 2 times... :-) And I blind bought a fragrance too one time that got high scores from Marc (Robes08) HYPNOSE by Lancome and I find it to be terrible, so first analyse it yourself please, don't waste your money.

ps : oh and there is a thread on this site (which fragrances have gotten you the most compliments I think it's called) but that thread also has people submitting messages who are paid by the companies so be the judge yourself is the moral of the story I guess.

Actually, it smells like metallic melon to me. Don't fall for all the hype.

To the OP: unfortunately, compliments aren't just about the smell itself. You have to be pretty liberal on the trigger for other people to smell you at all, and then there's no guarantee that they'll like the fragrance you're wearing. And dousing yourself is not really the polite way to go if you're sitting down to dinner with people (nothing ruins a good meal like strong perfume wafting all over the place).

I'd say just wear a fragrance you like and enjoy it. With fragrance, as with every other aspect of life, seeking others' approval is pretty much a losing proposition.
