If it wasn't for Basenotes.net, I would never have bought...

... what, exactly?

For me, this would be quite a lot! Body Kouros, B*Men, Pure Havane, Giorgio BH for Men, Caron pour Un Homme, Declaration Essence, and YSL PH.

Edit: And Eau des Baux, definitely. Getting into Orientals can be blamed directly on everyone I've got to know on BN. Getting into Chypres I think I can blame on the Lady of the House

All the niche I have now from By Killian, L'artisan, Creed, SL, FM, MFK, Nasomatto, TF PB, Amouage ect...and a few designers like the rest of the A*Men line, DH and DHI!

L'air du Desert Marocain
Pure Malt back when I used to read the forums before joining. It's still 95% full.
Terre d'Hermes among many others I'm sure...
Rive Gauche, Boss Bottled and a lot of niche decants.
L'Air du Desert Marocain!!!
Gucci Pour Homme (2003)
Eau des Baux
Lalique White
Ungaro III

...and so many others. Though, I have to give credit to Kristo from YouTube for turning me on to the excellent and underrated Lalique White, but basenotes is the reason I found his channel on youtube.

Also, I would have never returned to try Fahrenheit again. Boy did I do a 180 on that one. On first sniff, I was repulsed - mostly because I didn't understand it. Now, I love it.
Pretty much my whole current collection , minus things like Burberry London, Fahrenheit, and Terre d'Hermes.

I'd still be stuck with a lot of Polo too....thank goodness!
Half of the frags I have!
If its wasn't for Basenotes.net, I would never have bought...

.... a lot. Actually, most of the frags in my collection. To name a few: all my Creeds (Aventus, SMW, GIT), Guerlain, some cheapies like Bogart PH, Animale Animale... Before Basenotes, I only purchased highly-marketed fragrances. I've never purchased samples pre-BN.

all the niche samples and decants. i still can't urge myself to spend over 100 bucks for a scent...
A very nice thread.
River Gauche
LLAM
Pure Havane
DH
DHI
LIDGE
LIDG
Kouros
TDH and on ....and on ....and on
Well I wouldn't say Basenotes.

Id say if it weren't for 'alfarom, scent, mikeperez, mr.reasonable, foetidus' ,for example, I wouldn't have known about. ...

That list is endless and breeding by the daynn
post #14 of 45
My entire collection! Thanks BN and all it members for your great reviews and suggestions, my wallet hates you though!

Anything that wasn't sold at the local mall.

Or...

More than I could afford...

Either would fit.

This. I didn't even know what niche was and basically went with my wife to Nordstroms, Macys, Sephora, Dillards.

This.

If not for BN, I would not have purchased 24 Gold, L.I.D.G.E., Rive Gauche, and several other fragrances which I enjoy immensely.
Amen or Pure Malt
If it wasn't for Basenotes I wouldn't have been brave enough to have bought or worn any of my feminine frags and I probably would think vintage frags were just old stinky scents and who would want them as well.
Many of those that I wasn't able to find out about on my own to add to my collection post 2007.
Basically everything outside of the stuff that can be found at Neimans and Barneys. Actually, Chergui was something I never discovered at Barney's until basenotes.

Here's lookin' at you, basenotes
Pure Malt
Pure Havane
Dior Homme Intense
Musc Ravageur
Tobacco Vanille
Tuscan Leather

On the way are:
Diptyque Duelle
Versace Dreamer
YSL Rive Gauche
Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight in Paris
Jaipur Homme EDP, Body Kouros, and GIT not to mention anything niche. Michael Storer's Winter Star (one of my favortites) for sure. I would have never even heard of it or Michael.
Quite a few, which I would never have even heard of, were it not for BN.
Some of the ones that have worked out best for me have been VanCleef & Arpels PH, Bogart PH, Prada Amber, and Quorum.
Have also sampled a couple dozen others based on what I've read here.
The frag reviews on the site have been extremely interesting, and sometimes entertaining!

....90% of my wardrobe!
I think Pure Malt, Gucci PH2, Lidge were the only ones I came across by myself everything else (too much to list) has been due to this site, great guys hosting splits, peeps doing reviews etc. Great and enjoyable hobby with the only casualty being my wallet
post #28 of 45
Basically everything I own. I had no idea that there was a world beyond designer before discovering this site, and I would have never known what to look for, etc. Not saying that designer isn't good, it's just that right now I can't find any designer at my local stores that excites me...they are all starting to smell the same. Not everything, just most.
biehl's PC01 - my first frag purchase post-basenotes - just purchased from the Scent Bar in LA this afternoon!

If it wasn't for basenotes I would still be wearing cheap designer fragrance and celebrity fragrance
post #32 of 45
If it wasn't for Basenotes.net, I would never have bought all the niche perfumes in my collection.

I might still use some designer's or popular one and never experient the art of perfumery from the niche fragrance.
Hinoki. Thanks Mike Perez!
Anything niche. Although, I'd still be wearing Fahrenheit, so that's not so bad. I feel like I'd be missing out on so much. Although, I would have more money than I do now.
Most everything I own I heard about first from you guys. Certainly my fetish for samples is a direct result of too much time spent obsessing over this site. This should be an appreciation thread. Without you guys I would still be wandering aimlessly through the wilderness.
Basically everything I have.
Like many others, I would not have all that much in my collection. I was guided by a lot of people here, and now I'm finding my own favorites that are not exactly popular here. One in particular though is TdH. I bought that basically solely on recommendation, and I am glad I did.
Most of my collection.
... a fridge to stock other things than food and beverage!
Most likely: Knize Ten, Chanel Antaeus, YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme, Versace l'Homme, Halston Z14, Francesco Smalto pour Homme
post #41 of 45
Most stuff that wasn't hyped in Turin's book or on other sites. Many very good, some not so good lol.
Most of my collection, thanks for being enablers!

Finding Basenotes let me mentally push beyond my notions that more than 5 colognes was crazy talk.
Without a doubt Chanel Egoiste.

But in many ways also, Millesime Imperial and Green Irish Tweed as well.
Carven Homme & Zino Davidoff
I assume you also mean purely sampling -

Black Cashmere
Black Tourmaline
Citrine
Bois d'Encens
Amouage Opus VI
Cale Preludio D'Oriente
Kurkdjian Oud
HdP Petroleum
HdP Noir Patchouli
Baladin
Les Exclusifs
and so on...

Pretty much anything I think of sampling comes through Basenotes or Fragrantica. I also look at NST and Nero Profumo too.
