Eau De Lanvin

It's funny how one's opinion can change over time.
I never rated Eau de Lanvin very much and used to think it was rather an oddball of a fragrance. I couldn't really work it out. I recently tried it again and thought it was exceptional ~ a beautiful grassy, herby, refined fragrance.
What are your opinions on this one ? There are no reviews in the directory.

I believe it was one of the first "declared" unisex fragrances, (1933).

I have honestly never even heard of this fragrance.

david, would you compare it to any other scent?

I'm assuming this is different than Lanvin Eau de Cologne?

Hi Mike, sorry for the delayed reply.
I have been wearing it again tonight. It's a real Jekyll and Hyde this one. Last time I wore it I was in ecstasy...... ( perhaps I'm the Jekyll and Hyde rather than the perfume !). Anyhow, this time I'm not so enthusiastic.
I seem to have a love hate thing with it. What I don't like about it is the intermittent whiffs of a celery note I keep getting. There are certain fragrances that I detest for that celery note, such as Philaes.
Eau De Lanvin seems to be a melange of sharp citrus, herbs, a sweet soapy note and vetiver. In the drydown the vetiver comes very much to the forefront. It reminds me more than anything of the very old Gres Homme, (the one in the blue coated glass bottle). I was never a fan of Gres Homme because of the astringent lemon note and the celery twang, but to my nose Eau De Lanvin has another side which can be quite stunning. It's a difficult, but interesting fragrance that has a double edge.

Interestingly it was released in 1933 as a unisex fragrance ! There is also an Eau De Cologne from Lanvin, but I have never sampled it.

I would say this is more of a Spring/Summer fragrance.
