Opus 1870 vs. Poivre Samarcande

I really own and love Hermes Poivre Samarcande and now start thinking about Opuse 1870 (another peppery scent) which I havent tried yet. So how do you compare the two and which one do you like most?
Thanks

Very different. PS is a fairly transparent pepper scent, while Opus 1870 incorporates a dry, somewhat spicy rose. I prefer Opus 1870. It's much cheaper too.

I agree they are very different. While neither really was my cup of tea, I too prefer Opus 1870. If you like peppery scents my recommendation is to check out Tzora by Anat Fritz, as it features Peruvian pepper quite well, IMO.

Opus is more of a cedar than pepper, It is nice but be aware that all Penhaligon's suffer from poor longevity. There are alot of nice pepper fragrances around, Try Bang by Marc Jacobs...

Poivre Samarcande reeks of Iso E Super to me. I prefer Opus 1870.

Hermes Poivre Samarcande

I own both.

Yes they're both peppery but Opus 1870 is more full bodied. A bit of incense in it with some cedarwood.

Poivre Samaracande is the typical Hermes line transparency "its here but not really" motif.

Poivre Samaracande has a very umm, I can only say "musky" BO note that completely turns me off, although I've not sniffed Opus 1870, but I can't imagine it being any worse...

Really? Cuz I feel that PS smells a lot like your new love, Marc Jacobs Bang. Do you see the relation?

Jive: there's a definite cumin or caraway note in the Poivre that just rubs me the wrong way...can't quite explain it.
