ETRO any advice?
Ive just discovered the house in the title field and made me interested.
Can you pls advise any good, well done perfume produced by them? Can be masculine, starting fresh, maybe spicy, dry down can be woody, bit sweet.
I like Armani code, Allure homme sport, DHI from designer and Invasion Barbare, Gypsy water, Bleeker street from niche.
Thank you as always.

Personally not a fan of anything coming out of this house but others here on Basenotes should be able to share their positive experiences and make some good recommendations.

Never tried anything from this house.

Unfortunately I am not too familiar with the current versions. This line has gone through two reformulations. Atleast the vintage versions of Shaal Nur and Messe de Minuit are exceptional. Shaal Nur would be better fit for you of the two. Check out the directory for more information. Nothing I could ever say here would even come close to the great reviews found there.

thank you guys.

Shaal Nur is one of my favorite fragrances, very rich, spicy, and sweet. Messe de Minuit is a very cool damp incense, in contrast. Ambra is very smooth and soft take on amber. Patchouly is also pretty darn good. I haven't tried Pegaso or the new Greene St. yet, but they might also be to your liking.

I have only tried Shaal Nur (which I own), and find it to be a luxurious, well-crafted vetiver-based oriental. To me it "feels" like Guerlain's Heritage, which I also like a great deal. I have no idea if my bottle is vintage or reformulation. Best wishes to you. Adam

Good house to get into -- they have some nice fragrances and are reasonably priced. No out and out masculines though. I recommend Anice (aniseed, woods), Gomma (leather, rubber - similar to Bulgari Black), Musk (distinctive and powerful for a change)and Dianthus (wrongly categorised imo).

I personally enjoy Gomma, Royal Pavilion, Lemon Sorbet and Vetiver from this particular fragrance house.

I love Etro. I would recommend Palais Jamais, Messe de Minuit, Vetiver and Etra.

I am also a big fan of Etro. I love Shaal Nur, Etra, Palais Jamais and really like Lemon Sorbet, Patchouly, Ambra, Dianthus and Heliotrope.

I prefer vicolo fiori and etra - both great scents!

I own Patchouly (a dark, rich and beautiful patchouli), Palais Jamais (gorgeously bitter mix of jasmine and tea) and Gomma (slightly dandyish rubber/leather), all of which I'd highly recommend. Etro has a great earthy Vetiver as well (I don't have that one yet but I'm pretty sure I will eventually) and their spicy Shaal Nur is really nice, too, albeit a bit on the feminine side, IMO.
I reckon the generally acknowledged highlight of this house is Messe de Minuit, a "cold" churchy frankincense which many people around here enjoy quite a bit (I'm not one of them, I'm afraid, as I have a big problem with frankincense, but that's just me, that doesn't mean it's not a good scent...)
However, I have little enthusism for Etro's more recent releases (most of the ones I've mentioned above are late 80s-early 90s) - the last one, Greene Street, for example, totally underwhelmed me and left virtually no impression at all. But it's a good house with many interesting and rewarding fragrances - I'm pretty sure you'll find one you like!

^^^these would be my picks (Vetiver has to be possibly vintage). The rest of the line didn't impress me.

Thank you all. I have 4-5 to test now, Which is better than being lost among the ones owned by the store

Etro is a glorious italian brand which will always be far more worthy than dozens of more expensive new lines; apart Vetiver (probably among the best vetiver around) and Gomma i love a lot Patchouly (one of the most sharply exotic of the olfactory panorama), Sandalo (an excellent masculine fragrance), the romantic Heliotrope, Palais Jamais and obviously Messe de Minuit. My unique complaint with Etro is the averagely performing longevity and the ordinary sillage.

Too many of the Etro's I tried were of the unisex or slightly feminine-unisex variety, and most are at cologne strength, with the exception of Anice. That said, I think their Vetiver is great, and Etra and Anice are pretty good.

Palais Jamais is awesome. With its smoky tea, it's what I would imagine the temples of Tibet would smell like. One of the few fragrances I've loved enough to buy a backup bottle. I highly recommend testing it out.
