Flacon Defect ~ Guerlain Homme And It's Flankers

Thread Starter
Whilst trying Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee in a perfumery, as I pulled the plastic cap off ~ the head/nozzle/syphon pipe all came out and fell apart in my hands. I apologised to the sales assistant and upon trying to reassemble, got a closer look at the whole apparatus. This series does not utilize the standard metal crimped top, (which I prefer, because it prevents air from entering into the bottle ~ and prevents ebay seller's from exchanging/tampering with the juice) instead it uses a very crude glass screw neck, (which only has a MINIMAL amount of thread, (instead of the usual 4 or 5 layers/spirals of thread).
The sales assistant told me that they had had problems with these bottles and hinted it was due to the fact they were manufactured in China.
I am wondering how these bottles will fare with time and the issue of the possbilty of air entering the bottle ?
Perhaps owners of any of this series could do a quick inspection and report back. Thanks.

A popular and typical statement made by people who are always quick to deflect blame on China. I am always amused when people make these comments. Most of the things we buy are made in China and I have had some fantastic items ( clothes, fragrance bottles....etc) that are well made. Not all bottles are made equal. The blame here lies with Guerlain and only Guerlain. They knew full well what kind of bottles they were having made for them.

Oh well, the bottle quality seems to fit the quality of the new juice from Guerlain masculines anyways.

Wasn't aware of this problem.

I own both Homme L'Eau Boisee and Homme Intense. I've had a problem with the sprayer on the former and no problem at all with the latter, though they both have identical sprayers as far as I can tell. The day I bought the former, the cap was very tight and when a pulled it off using some force, the sprayer came flying off with it. I replaced it and have had no repeat, problem solved.

An aside: firstly, I know there have already been comments made about the change in packaging for the Guerlain Homme line (The metal plates have been discontinued on both Homme and Homme Intense and the wooden cap is now plastic on GHHLEB) and now complaints about the sprayer. These things would only bother me if I had issues with the juice inside. I honestly believe the cost-cutting exercises with the flacon designs and the temperamental sprayer are irrelevancies when put in the context of the wonderful scents within. I honestly don't get the criticisms of the Guerlain Homme line. Ok, the original Homme has serious longevity issues and L'eau is too sweet by a long way, But L'Eau Boisee and, particularly, Homme Intense are absolutely gorgeous scents to my nose using very high quality ingredients with great blending. But then it's the usual stuff you get in any forum with collectors, be it music, wine, books, films...no one can touch the past masters blah blah blah. Anyway, I seem to have moved off topic somewhat. Apologies. Please don't let a slightly below par sprayer put you off an otherwise beautiful scent.

Well I just checked mine and it seems okay, the chrome collar shifts slightly when I force it. The atomizer does look a bit less quality. No seepage when I spray. I ordered it when it was first released and it was the greatest blind buy shipped from England anyone can hope for. I own the Homme line, all four and love each one. They have different personalities. The Boisee' is classy and I wear it to the office and projects masculinity. It is a summer fragrance with the earthy mossy vetiver. I am ordering Creed's Original Vetiver to layer it. OV will give it the brightness at the top and the Boisee' bottom will give it the depth. I can't wait!

I own Homme and all 3 flankers. No problems whatsoever, and I've used them all many times now.

Same here. I removed the sprayer tops last night to inspect them and they all seemed OK to me, and all with identical sprayers. I didn't try unscrewing anything in case I ended up breaking any of them. My bottles pre-date the bottle revisions though, maybe the problem David describes is limited to the the latest incarnations.
