Longevity on test paper is ALWAYS a proof of quality?

Many scents vanish on test paper after 24 hours and even less.
Many others "survive" for more time 2,3 days, one week.
so I'd ask if longevity on paper (not skin) could be a proof of good quality.

(I am carrying on some experiments, at least one parfum, although weakly, is still recognizable on test paper after a whooping 25 days ....)

"Quality" only in the specific sense. There are materials that smell hideous yet last a very long time. But I agree that often long lasting materials are a sign of a good perfume. On paper it might be easier to see because on skin everything moves much faster, and depends a lot on temperature.

Agree that it's very hard to judge quality just by spraying on paper.

Don't know about 'always' but the most recent tests I did on paper were Bleu de Chanel and Musc Ravageur, both lasted days and I'd consider both great quality .

I know the more natural ingredients it has the less time it lasts on the skin. The more chemical in nature it is the longer it lasts. I would say that quality comes from the blending and not necessarily just from the ingredients. If it doesn't last 4 hours on my skin then I could care less if it lasts 4 days on paper.

I don't measure longevity from paper.

Paper rarely gets warm and then cold and therefore does not replicate the human body and developing perfumes.

Also, wouldn't you rather measure projection and not longevity?

Whats the point of stellar longevity if projection (what you smell without raising your arm to your nose) is poor?

I try to look at the whole picture...I want it to last 6-8hrs, I want to smell it without having to put my nose in my shirt, and I want it to smell nice. Bond no. 9 has some monster longevity frags...that smell horrible. Penhaligon's has some divine juice...that doesn't last the hour between putting it on and getting to work. I find many things last days/weeks on paper, but just the degraded base notes, interestingly most end up smelling exactly the same...powder.

No. Buy some oil paint and slap it on a piece of paper. Check back in 6 months and I bet it's still there. Not good quality perfume.

More to the point. Have you ever known someone to run over a skunk on the highway? The stink gets onto the car? It can last for weeks. Still, not a great perfume.
