Ambre 114: Wow!

I bought this because I loved the amber note, but I had really never given it a proper wearing--mostly just fooling around with a sample in my apartment.

Today I wore it to work--3 sprays--one on the wrist, two on the neck. Now, after wearing it for the day, I can honestly say that this is an amazing fragrance.

If I could use one word to describe it, it would be: Nuanced.

At different times throughout the day I've caught whiffs of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, rose, sandalwood, incense...something that sort of smells like a marshmallow. And all of it smells great. And it always seems to be changing in a very subtle way. Overall, its been a wonderful experience.

I recently answered a thread that asked "What fragrances would you give a perfect 10 out of 10." My only reply was "Invasion Barbare." But Ambre 114 could very well be a 10 out of 10. I have to wear it some more before I can know for certain, but it definitely has the potential. It's so well blended and it just radiates this soft, nuanced beauty that I've rarely experienced in other frags.

I know I didn't discover anything new or anything, and that this has been a basenotes favorite for some time, but if there's anyone out there thinking about this, whether looking to sample it or blind buy it, do not hesitate. It's really good.

Top quality stuff indeed and one of the easiest ambers to pull off, IMO.

A very nice scent and glad I own it.

Yes, very easy to wear. I also own Ambre Precieux, which I like a lot, but it's so opulent and robust that it can be difficult to pull off on certain days or in certain situations.

^^^ yep. Most ambers tend to heaviness while Ambre 114 seems to completely skip this aspect. I generally adore amber-prominent fragrances but it's always good to have an "easier" alternative in our own arsenal...

One of my two favorite ambers. Absolutely incredible smelling stuff for sure. Congrats on your purchase!

Is 114 better than Ambre Sultan? How is the longevity and silage on this?
For me, it's not a question of which is better as IMO they are both great but different. I get good longevity from both.

Radically different. That's all I can really say. I prefer 114 but I can't attest to its superiority.

The longevity is excellent. It's lasted on me close to 11 hours so far. And the sillage is just right--well mannered but present.

Well, if you like it, I may just have to check it out. It seems we share a lot of the same feelings when it comes to fragrances, so I'll have to find myself a sample.

I agree - 114 and Ambre Sultan are quite different - both nice. AS is much more spicy and opulent, and, as stated, 114 is more nuanced and easy to wear. 114 is my favourite amber.

And what's your other favorite amber?

Les Nombres d'Or Ambre by Mona di Orio

Another good one from Histoires, own it, love it, but very weak on my skin, lasts 2-3 hrs at the most after which it becomes a very mild skin frag

How does it compare with Ambra Mediterranea?
A very nice and well blended amber

Well see its not that easy to compare the two. The former (114) being an almost amber-only perfume while the latter being a very complex amber-based perfume.

I personally enjoy AS more.

No comparison. Versilia Vintage Ambra Mediterranea is on another level in terms of complexity, robustness, elegance, finishing and depth.

Three sprays of this one, is a lot. Glad you like this one.

I like Amber 114 but like most amber fragrances it doesn't wear very well in warm & humid climates.

It's a beautiful fragrance & my favorite amber! For me it's very close to a 10/10 & a true "comfort" scent. Love it!
