WORST Fragrance you have smelt? - Page 2

Contenders would be The Dreamer, Eternity and Obsession for men, Ferrari Red, Exceptional...Because You Are (women's, I believe), Dirty English, S. Oliver Original, Chrome, Sex Pistols, Lacoste Pour Homme, Pure Shot, Valentino Valentina, Purr, Blue Sugar, Safari, Cuba Gold, Angel Les Parfums de Cuir, etc...
Am I the only one who gets perverse pleasure from seeing high flyers like Knize Ten, Musc Ravageur, Chergui and Santal 33 taking their lumps in a hatchet job thread?
Can't say I've ever tried any 'perfume' that induced the sort of negative reactions described in this thread. Compared to some of the truly gag-inducing aromas we sometimes have to endure on public transport / in public toilets, etc. I find the vast majority of products sold as 'perfume' to be not unpleasant even if I wouldn't want to buy them or wear them myself. To be honest, the thing I find 'worst' in some perfumes is simply that they disappoint me or bore me, but I don't think I've ever tried one that disgusted me.

Joop! Homme
Cool Water
YSL Kouros
Odin 07.
Osmanthe Yunnan.
Two:

1. Musc Kublia Khan. This is rank, offensive stuff. I realize people say they wear it to work. I'd be fired.

and . . . the winner . . . by a mile . . .

2. Jicky. Cat poop. Jicky is the only cologne I've ever smelled that induced my gag reflex.

Fleur du Male, without a doubt.
Jovan Musk for Men (current formulation) - Smells like rancid hairspray and no name cheap laundry soap.

And how about some aquatic fragrances that makes you smell like a rotten seaweed infused in alcohol mixed with the excrements of a diseased jellyfish?
I almost forgot to add Miel De Bois by SL..ferret in a bottle, no joke. I'd go to Petsmart if I wanted that smell on me.

Rubirosa..yep, aquatics in male scents gross me out. Musky seawater, no thanks! It's so hard for me to find male scents that I like.
LesNez - L'antimatiere and Tauer - Orange star literally made me gag.
Aramis is like wearing RAID.

You just reminded me... I thought Bvlgari Aqua and especially Aqua Marine were gross... like stagnant seawater, maybe some dead fish floating around, and stinky seaweed on the sand baking under a hot sun. How people love either of those two scents just astounds me.

That and something called 'white suede' that I tried in Dubai, although that was less disturbing.

You've all got me really curious about this one now. I know a few fragrances that contain a metallic note. Is it similar to any of those ?

No, to my nose it is quite unique.... And horrendous smelling.

Leather Oud
Don't hate me, but there is a note in L'artisan Havana Vanille and Miller Harris Fleur Oriental that makes me heave. What the Julio is it???

- - - Updated - - -

I must say, I am amazed to see some on this list, like Chergui (beautiful), Musc Ravageur (triumphant), Flowerbomb(huge compliment getter for me), Osmanthe Yunnan(how can this offend anyone, it's a whisper?), D&G pour Homme(room freshener blah but not one that will make me run for the hills)

You are all totally entitled to your opinions of course!

It is so interesting how widely our preferences vary.

SM has just the kind of diseased ocean notes referred to in post #72. You really should try it. Seriously.

I am with you on this.
Every time there's a "worst fragrance of all time" thread (and let's face it we don' t have to wait long for each new one) I get more and more curious about what this actually smells like.
Of course I'm not going to put my hand in my pocket to find out...
I try to appreciate and understand most fragrances, but some just don't sit well with me. I'd have to say some of the older powerhouse fragrances like Polo Green which is my Dad's favorite (if overly applied), Kouros, and Aramis. Special shout out to Perry Ellis 360 Blue and 360 original.

Ferrari Oumo pure gasoline

Bond No. 9 - Wall Street

Probably the old man who sat beside me in choir tonight at church. Great nice chap, but he smelled like a combo of absorbine junior, horehound candy and vitalis. He smelled horrible.

You pretty much just have to try it. It's almost a pleasant, light floral, but there's an element that is just....disturbing. It's not one you just spray and smells horrible at first sniff, but after a minute or two your mind starts going "WTF is this?"

We all like different stuff. I wear vanillas that would make others spew bile.

Luca Turin gave Osmanthe Yunnan 5 stars, I agree with him on nothing but this fragrance and Bvlgari Black LOL.

I must go sniff Secretions Magnifique. Must.

Kouros is the worst frag I've ever smelled.

Black Afgano.
Not something worst, as a matter of fact a very successful iconic fragrance to many.
Dior Posion, the original one. I swear sometimes on some hazy days, i could see a whole train of Fifty Shades of Grey readers dragging on its silage...

Oh wow that brings back memories. Absorbine Junior has to be one of the worst-smelling products I've ever encountered. When I was a kid there was a bottle of it in our medicine cabinet and I sometimes used to go up to it and smell it just for the loathing-and-horror-type thrill. Worse than Secretions Magnifiques by a mile. I guess it's all relative.

Grey Flannel
Hard to say which one is the worst, but some of the most disgusting:

Calvin Klein Escape
Clinuque Happy
Ungaro II
Lanvin Arpege Homme
Van Gils Between Sheets
Hermes Bel Ami
Fleur du Male
Gaultier2
(Some) Perry Ellis
Bvlgari Black
JPG Le Male. First time I ever wore it I wasn't convinced, later that day I came down with a severe vomiting bug. Now whenever I smell it I gag.

Granted extenuating circumstances, but can't be many fragrances that make people want to throw up.
Karma by Lush was the worst smell ever. Metallic fake orange squash - like the orange scent in a kitchen cleaner.

Utterly horrible.
All currents versions from: Dsquared2, Davidoff, PRabanne, Dior mainstream ones (maybe two "meh" here), Joop, and the cherry on the top would be Carolina Herrera line!

Beyond Paradise for Men.

And in my wardrobe: Knize Ten, one of my major mistakes in life.
Obsession for Men is a very good shout, only beaten to worst place by Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille.

Like bathing in a vat of fudge.

Carlo Corinto Vetyver - expectations were high, but I wouldn't spray it on my neighbor's cat...appalling.

Also, 1 Million. It smells like the urine from the cast of the Jersey Shore on MTV. An insult to fragrance as much as they are an insult to the rest of America.

Cheers,

ericrico

Most of my bêtes noires have alraedy been mentioned: Knize Ten, Quorum, Aramis, Grey Flannel, MKK, Black Afgano, Ferrari Uomo, Orange Star.

So I'll add Turtle Vetiver Front (aka Dead Crab) and the unspeakable urinous horror in the dark green bottle with the lips on top, which should remain unnamed.

Montale Aoud Lime - Revolting
Mona Di Orios Cuir
Le Labo's Patchouli#?

Back in the days I remember not liking Halstons 1-12. But loved that Z-14
post #104 of 132
For myself, its a toss up between Montale Oud Cuir D'Arabie and Ambre Sultan.
Creed Royal Water...Bug Spray
Creed MI...Cat Piss
Creed Original Vetiver...department store garbage

Tell it to all the women, from young to middle-aged, that like 1 Million on a guy....
Big compliment getter. Not bad for "urine," eh?
Keith Urban's Phoenix smells unbelievably cheap. And that's worse than strange, odd, unusual or weird.

Knize Ten smells like an Army Surplus store. The Third Reich meets Canadian Tire.
too many to list,

too many FAIL out there
After living with it for a while, Bas de Soie has gotten on my bad side. It's such an unfriendly scent.
Kiss Him is another wretched thing: Luden's cherry cough-drops and b.o. Not a grand combination.
Amazing poll, someone's best is probably anothers worst!!

For me, these scents are bad:
Kouros
A*Men

Funny, so many people "hate" A Men. THe first time I smelled it I loved it, then I hated it, then I couldn't decide, then I bought a bottle, it varies from day-to-day as to my feelings...

Roughly in order:

M/mink pine disinfectant, bilge water & acrid pollution and a whiff of lab spillage

A*Men sickening, nauseating burnt sugar and a whiff of domestic violence

Polo geriatric, herbal stench and a whiff of child abuse

Not to sound overly sensitive, but I work with women who have been beaten up by husbands, and kids who have had unspeakable things done to them...Doesn't compare to fragrances AT ALL...
