Good starter cologne for 18 year old college student

Thread Starter
Nearly through my first year of college now I just got out of a long term relationship, and realized I was no longer 12 and axe doesn't interest women nor smell professional.

I've started to look into some various colognes through BN and figured as a newcomer (and first time cologne user) I should start a thread to get a more personalized suggestion from some veteran users. I heard cologne must fit your lifestyle so that's where I'll start.

Lifestyle:
5'9" Athletic Male
College Student
Various Clothing Styles:
Wear lots of thermals (3-4 days a week)
Casual fitting jeans nearly daily
Sports and Music related shirts
White Nike's or Timberland Boots (Depends on the weather)
Looking for a daily wear, until I expand my line of scents

Btw I've seen good things about Body Kouros, Happy Clinique, MI Creed (probably not in my price range), etc.

Just looking for some help or suggestions. Thanks!

Gucci PH II should do it.

If you like fresh scents try:
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Versace Man Eau Fraiche

Some other good ones are:
Spicebomb
The One - DG
L'homme - YSL

A couple good cheap colognes that I like are:
Eternity by CK
Blue by Nautica

I think it really depends on your budget. But for 100ml bottle for everyday where, I recommend something that can be all season and not offensive.

Cheap:
Perry Ellis 360 red. A lot of people think this smells like aqua di gio, a BIG compliment getter, but half the price.
Nautica voyage. Another clean, fresh scent that's good for daily wear.

Either way, I think the first scent for someone that wants to wear it in as many situation as possible should be something fresh and non offensive.

I love burberry London but its not versatile at all, and I love d&g the one but its a bit too sweet for daily wear. Though for college, I think it's a fine choice as well, more expensive, though, but versatile enough. For situations where it's not versatile, e.g. Job interview, just shower and wear deodorant.

Depends on your climate also- Dior Homme Sport or Chanel Allure Edition Blanche for warm weather. La Nuit De L'homme for cooler weather.

I own Clinique Happy, it is a great scent that garners many compliments, you can wear it anywhere and really anytime and not offend anyone. No worries of over-applying for the self-conscious. Smells like.. light fruits, mainly mandarin, but not too sweet. Mainly warm-weather scent.

If you really want to win as an original, seriously. Grab a bottle of Kiton Men...not kidding, very original, clean scent that smells very much like Creed Green Irish Tweed but with a slight floral approach, this could easily be a blind buy. This particular scent says...trust me, I'm responsible, I have a 5 year plan, a 401K investment, promising future, and your parents will like me.

Legend is an excellent choice as well. Just way more popular with your age group.

When I was around 18, I purchased Aramis...big mistake...and wore the hell out of it. At least I am decent looking and have fairly decent genes, other wise I would have been friend-zoned all of the time or forever alone.

Yeah, Aramis is a stink bomb.

The OP is 18. Fierce is popular amongst teenagers.

But what if you could have fierce, but for cheaper, better smelling, and without the tacky name/logo?

Then you get Mont Blanc Legend

True..I actually like Fierce alot...it is about the projection with that one. Ed Hardy skulls & roses is another recent copy of those notes.

I tested Fierce on one wrist and Legend on the other for work yesterday. Here is the thing with these two.

Fierce: projection and sillage monster, people are going to notice you for sure for the first 3 hours.

Mont Blanc Legend: calm, moderate...great smell...lasts longer than Fierce, but not as projected, I smell this scent on and off throughout the day...so I know the longevity is there, just not as strong and "in your face"

These honestly smell the same, except for these differences. Everybody has different chemistry though...so there is that at play as well.
