I just created my own perfume.

O.k. so this afternoon I arrived three quarters-of-a-hour late for my Create Your Own Perfume

session (kindly bought for me by my son.) I was stressed out, because I had not left enough time for the

inevitable traffic jams and diversions around Worcester and Kiddiminster, but the lovely Maltese girl

at the beauty salon was more than willing to keep my appointment anyway and, after a cup of coffee and a quick recovery, I was ready to roll!

The perfume hour comes courtesy of the Perfume Studio and is basically a "Create your own Perfume" by numbers. There were 18 accords or blends that I had to sniff on mouilettes and place into definite/maybe/no way piles. The accords smelled very natural and not synthetic at all.The resulting choices are then used to create my own special scent. I selected the following blends:

Top:- Citrus, Fruity and Amber (always thought that was a basenote, but anyway.)

Middle:- Spicy, Gentle Floral and Rose Floral.

Basenotes:- Musky and Woody (Sandalwood)

The choices were then put into a 15ml travelo, along with some kind of filler blend that tops them all off

and I was then asked if I wanted to tweak it by adding less or more of some of my choices. I smelled it and decided to amp up the spice and amber. It comes in a nice presentation box with a scented feather.

I named my scent CADENZA (because I am a musican and love that part of a concerto, where the soloist gets to show off his or her talents to the full.) I also like the sound of the name.

Et voila! I can now re-order the scent again. as it is listed on their files and you can also get scented body lotions and bath oils scented with your own creation.

I thoroughly enjoyed the session, despite knowing more than the assistant did (I didn't tell her that of course!) These Treat Me gift vouchers are available through lots of sources online.

By the way, the scents I rejected outright were Oceanic, Floral Floral and Fresh Floral.

My "maybe" pile included Aldehydic, Sporty Blend (whatever that is - it smelled like CKONE!)

Does it smell how I expected it would? Not quite, but it is a very soft, ambery, spicy floriental

that has a fair amount of sillage but, sadly, not much lasting power (2 hours at most.)

Very cool! I am sure Cadenza smells great, my nose is curious. That is a good name by the way.

Haha, CKOne, that wouldn't make my list either! Hehe.

Sounds like a fun afternoon!

Thanks for sharing, Kewart.
Sounds fun.
It'll be interesting to see how it smells in a few weeks' time, once it's had time to settle.

Sounds like fun. Glad you enjoyed it!

Love the name! Surprised it hasn't been used. What a lovely gift from your son.

I thought the same, jujy! Cadenza sounds so lovely and makes a perfect theme as a perfume title but I sure don't remember it ever being used before. Very clever, kewart!

The perfume sounds very pretty, even if not what you imagined. I like the simplicity of presenting accords from which to choose; seems so much less overwhelming than sniffing individual notes. This really sounds like a fun experience!

That sounds like fun! I love the name you chose.

Interesting! Give it a month or two and it should smell like its going to.

Ooh very nice gift and name!

When I get to create my own perfume, I'll have to name it after my profession. This means I'll be wearing Influenza. LMFAO.

Thanks for your lovely comments everyone! I actually hadn't thought about the "settling"
issue. How long does a perfume need to settle for? Is it that synergy occurs later rather than sooner?
This could be the start of a new topic!

Kewart - I did a one day course with Karen Gilbert last year. I noticed the 'perfume' (if one can call it that!) I mixed took a few weeks to become settled, during which time the scent definitely altered somewhat. Keep a nostril on yours and let us know how / if it changes.

Sounds like fun, I'd love to have a go at this.

Mine will be called Dogsbody

That is a nice looking pyramid, Kewart - let us know how the scent develops over the forthcoming weeks. Thanks for sharing your afternoon
