Quintessential Citrus Fragrance?

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I own a number of citrus based fragrances, and I think they are my favorite type of scent. What do you consider the quintessential or must have citrus fragrance in your collection?

Cheers,
Hi,
Eau de Rochas pour homme - 9,5 out of 10
Monsieur de Givenchy vintage - 8 out of 10
post #3 of 38
Vintage Monsieur de Givenchy and Eau de Patou (the later being more of a pure citrus play, IMO)
You should probably include Terre d'Hermes in the list.

Eau d' Orange and Neroli Portifino

Eau de Rochas Pour Homme, definitely a MUST have!

And of course Concentre d'Orange Verte by Hermes, a very nice citrusy one!

1. Creed Selection Verte
2. Hermes Concentre D'Orange Verte
3. Maitre Pour Le Jeune Homme
4. Parfums De Nicolai Cologne Sologne
5. Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes

Those are my top 5 most worn/most liked Citrus scents. Some other worthy CITRUS SCENTS (and not just scents with citrus) are:

Kilian Prelude To Love
Creed Scent of Oger
Brioni Eau De Parfum
Thirdman Eau Monumentale
Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte
Penhaligon's Eau De Cologne (anthology)
Guerlain Imperiale
Guerlain Cologne Du Parfumeur
Annick Goutal Eau D'Hadrien
PDN Balle De Match
Villoresi Acqua Di Colonia
Creed Citrus Biggarade
Trumper Extract of West Indian Limes
Bombay Sapphire Infusion
Acqua Di Parma Colonia
Eau De Rochas Homme
Creed Zeste Mandarine Pampelmousse
Atelier Orange Sanguine
Trumper Eau De Cologne
PDN Cedrat EDC
Syed Junaid Alam Raiq
Fresh Hesperides
Malle Cologne Bigarade
Roger & Gallet Extra Vieille
Chanel Eau De Cologne
Chanel Allure Cologne Sport
Jacques Fath Green Water
4711

If we include fruity/fresh/floral/oceanic scents with some Citrus to compliment them, that still have an overall "citrussy attitude":
I then include:

Cereus #4, Dior Homme Cologne, M7 Fresh, Eau Sauvage, Bleu De Chanel, Amouage Arcus, Amouage Ciel, Rasasi Al Wisam White, Montale Boise Fruite, Xerjoff Mefisto, Silver Mountain Water, Original Vetiver, GIT, Erolfa, Millesime Imperial, VIW, Aventus, Mugler Cologne, Sisley Eau De Campagne

Grt list Dullah...Now Noserefatu should go on binge shopping as many on the list are must haves!!!
The only additions I can think of are from the Jo Malone house - Lime, Basil & Mandarin & Grapefruit & a few more - however, none from this house last 2 + hrs on me, so I suggest to buy from Dullahs list...

Yves Saint Laurent Pour Homme Haute Concentration (powerful, sexy and a bit dirty, great for casual use)

Boucheron for Men Eau de Parfum (dry, austere and formal, the dry down is great and makes you feel wealthy)

Monsieur Balmain
A few favourites: Eau du Sud by Goutal, Declaration by Cartier, Eau d'Aviateur by Atelier Flou, Monsieur Balmain, Crabtree & Evelyn West Indian Lime.
First mention of Eau de Guerlain???

Burt's Bees Natural Cologne is a sublime obscure citrus.

That defines pure citrus. But I also find these are excellent members of that genre:
Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Profumum Acqua Viva

"Citrus" is quite vague - there are plenty to chose from - orange, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, bergamot, etc.

My personal favourite (that I own) is Acqua di Parma Colonia (original) which is based on lemon-citrus.

From my own collection I would include :

Christian Dior Eau Sauvage
Creed Original Vetiver
Cartier Declaration
Caron L'Anarchiste
Issey Miyake Leau d' Issey
The Different Company - Sel de Vetiver

In the eau de cologne genre, my vote for Chanel Eau de Cologne followed by PdN Cologne Sologne and, more distantly, 4711.

In the regular perfume area, unfortunately, one has to go vintage (Cravache, Eau Sauvage etc etc)

Eau d'hadrien/sud
Central Park/NB
Neroli Savauge
Others

My favorite and the only citrus I wear is Borsari's Acqua Classica - crisp, full of sunlight, long lasting, the perfect morning summer cologne. The ultimate in classic Italian sophistication.

As others have said, citrus is too broad to have real meaning, if you're asking for specific recommendations. And people that like one subvariation may not like others; I like orange and neroli, but don't much care for lemon and grapefruit.

For neroli, my favorites are Neroli Portofino, Chanel's Eau de Cologne, and Creed's Neroli Sauvage. Frankly, these three are pretty interchangeable to me. I'm not saying they smell the same, just that each of them is an equally pleasing take on Neroli. I alternate buying them; neroli tends to be my daily work scent half the time in the Summer.

For pure orange, my vote goes to Concentre d'Orange Verte by Hermes. Best vaguely dirty pure orange smell I've ever come across. I don't like the Malle Citrus Biggarade, for example, because it has Ellena's "dirty, sweaty" vibe turned too far up.

The only lemon cologne I wear is Eau d'Hadrien, an it only gets worn occasionally on superhot Summer days, usually when I'll be outside.

Monsieur Balmain is a good one, but to me it's more lemongrass than lemon. Gives me a spa vibe, like some Thai massage oil perhaps.
This is a great thread! I personally am looking for that quintessential " citrus ", namely orange scent. Keep the suggestions coming!
From my current wardrobe:
Armani Eau pour Homme, Eau Sauvage and Roberto Capucci pour Homme

From my wish list, often overlapping with my "tested" and also "next buys"-lists:
YSL pour Homme, ADP Colonia, Loewe para Hombre
post #24 of 38
Profumum Acqua Viva is about as "quintessential citrus" as you could get, IMO. That said, I think DULLAH's list is an excellent one.
oranges and lemons say the bells of st. Clements Heeley
post #26 of 38
Monsieur Balmain has a very long lasting lemon note
Diptyque L'Eau des Hesperides very juicy citrus cologne
Diptyque L'Eau de Neroli fresh citrus with light floral notes
Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte never fails , been using it over 20 years +
post #27 of 38
Creed Citrus Bigarrade is a real favorite, but all of Creed's citrus fragrances are great. Bois du Cedrat, Neroli Sauvage, Zeste Mandarine Pamplemousse - all highly recommended.
My personal favourites are Creed's Bois de Cedrat and Selection Verte, followed by Eau d'Orange Verte. For a subdued and sweeter designer scent there is Allure Homme Edition Blanche.

+1 Acqua di Parma Colonia

Classic !

Malle Bigarade Concentree, the orange note in this fragrance is one of the most natural i've ever smelled.
+1 Malle Bigarade Concentree-This is my Quintessential, I LOVE this stuff!!
+1 Monsieur Balmain-Great Lemon
And, I gotta add Bond no 9 Little Italy-Straight up Orange with some grapefruit! Love the stuff also!! And, it lasts quite a while on me. Great stuff!!
My favorites at the moment, in order of preference:

Chanel Eau de Cologne
Guerlain Eau de Cologne Impériale
Hermès Concentré d'Orange Verte
Chanel Pour Monsieur
Farina Gegenüber Kölnisch Wasser
Quintessential Citrus you say? Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Sicilia. Fantastic! Long lasting for this genre, bright citrus, with beautiful materials, and a little edge of something sharp and greener, petitgrain or cypress maybe?
+1 on the amazing Rochas.
But I find the Italians are masters at this style particularly for their use of herbs to amplify the citrus facet.

Lorenzo Villoresi Uomo
Xerjoff Nio
Armani Eau pour Homme

I agree with Dullah about Chanel Allure Cologne Sport, if what you want is Lemon and not too many other notes, this is it.

Orange "Soliflores" would be Arancia di Capri, Orange Sanguine or Little Italy.

If you want more of a blended fragrance, then lots of my favourites have already been mentioned (Armani, Rochas, Boucheron, Eau de Guerlain & Eau du Sud). One that is missing and I feel I must speak up for is Miller Harris Le Petit Grain. Right up there with the classic greats of this genre.
