"Black rose" note in Tom Ford Noir de Noir, what is this?

Tom Ford's Noir de Noir is a rose/saffron/oud that's described by the man himself as "A dark Chypre Oriental, this scent opens with an earthy mantle of richly woven Saffron, Black Rose and Black Truffle, with hints of floralcy".

Whatever it is, I absolutely love the sweet note in it which I assume is this "black rose", but I can't find anything about what black rose actually means.

Can anyone shed light on the subject?

What I understand of the concept of "black rose", and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that this means a velvety, musky rose as the one found in Black Aoud, Oud Ispahan or Acteur.

I believe you're right.

Noir de Noir has good projection and longevity (not to mention, a hec of a frag).

Ah so "black rose" isn't a flower of some sort? Any other recos featuring this type of scent? It looks like Montale makes a bunch in that vein but they aren't available in Toronto unfortunately.

As others have said, official notes are only suggestive, often they do not refer to actual materials (and even if they are actual materials, it doesn't mean that such material is actually used in the frag). The sweet material in Noir de Noir is not the rose, but some other amber or chocolatey material.

Thanks cacio, to be honest I suspected as much as my reaction when smelling it is more like when I'm starving and I happen to smell a rich dessert, while I certainly don't get anything like that from the rose frags my wife has worn over the years including potent attars.

I'm interested in trying others in this vein if you have any recos, and thanks!
