Ok guys, help me figure out this note....

I'm no note guru so here goes. I first noticed the note in LIDGE and also in L'instant. I later noticed it in Mugler Pure Leather. Today, I'm getting it in Aqua Fahrenheit. My initial suspicion was Anise from a post about not over spraying LIDGE to avoid an Anise bomb, of which I did over apply once, and a particular note REALLY popped out to me and from then on, I could only draw the conclusion that note must be anise as I have no clue or other reference. Problem is, I don't see anise listed in Aqua Fahrenheit's note list (not that it couldn't be left out of course). Any ideas on this?

I don't think I could ever isolate one similar note among three fragrances. Others have much keener noses

I just checked L' instant, Pure Leather and Fahrenheit Aqua to check the ingredients. I could not see a common note that these shared besides Aqua Water. So you may be correct about the anise. That's the closest note I could detect also. Good thread.

My guess would be patchouli.

Probably star anise although I don't see it mentioned in the other two (Leather and Aqua) note breakdowns. Possibly sandalwood as well although it isn't in Aqua either. Last note that looks similar is cedar but again it isn't in Aqua.

Official notes do not correspond to what's in the bottle necessarily, so even if it's not written, it could be there. That said, I don't smell anice in pure leather. Anise is the fresh part of licorice candy, and to have a good idea of what it is, you can try the liquor ouzo or raki, or Pernod. Star anice is a spice and a different thing altogether.

Just took another look at these. Could be Mint (which Fahrenheit and Pure leather share). Or it could be Grapefruit (which L'instant and Fahrenheit Aqua share). Or Citrus (which L'instant and Fahrenheit share). And last, but not least, Bergamont (which Pure Leather and L'instant share). As we all know there are notes not mentioned in a lot of frags. But the comparison is very close with all three of these.

I find the note most specifically between L'instant and Pure Leather. When I received Aqua Fahrenheit yesterday, BAM, there it was. I'm beginning to think mint as well!

Update: Just now found this. No wonder I couldn't find "Pure Leather" on fragrantica. Country boys dont speak french! haha. http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/T...uir-16043.html
Mint has to be it.

I'm guessing it may be patchouli, since its camphorous side can be almost mint-like, and certainly both LIDGE and Pure Leather have patchouli. Likely not Aqua Fahrenheit, but you may be getting a similar effect from the mint in the context of basil, vetiver, etc.

I really like patch scents and patch has a number of faces for sure. However, I just don't feel patchouli is the culprit, but then again..
