do not have one but i figure it would be nice to have

we know in the states folks are crazy about their pets

though each culture has
their own thoughts on different furry little creatures like some S. Americans like their Guinea Pigs slow roasted more so than on cedar chips next to the bed

There is an old pet thread, but so many of the pictures have been moved or deleted it would be a good idea to start another one.

Here is Cali, the diva dog:

He is a happy soul, considering the trauma he went through as a young dog. We got him from a rescue and he didn't have the best start in life.

We don't keep them. We "borrow" the tiny difficult feeders that need bottle feeding up to four times a day from the exhausted farmers wife who sometimes has oodles of them if the ewes are being daft, have died, or have triplets and ignore one. Then we return them when they are just on one big feed a day, to swap for some more difficult feeders. Sometimes they look so pathetic. They look like their fleece is too big, like the crinkles on your fleece sleeve elbow. Then we give them back all fat and fluffy and very naughty. The kids love them so much and when the lambs are much older and in the field, occasionally they have been known to remember and come over for an ear scratch when the non bottle reared ones flee. They are very sweet when tiny.

It's for the kids. They adore their babies and it trains them to care for and muck out a pet without the onerousness of long term ownership. This is another 'just loved' baby. We're just soft that's all.....

Yes, and it also helps them understand a lot of things about life, death, respect, etc.
So many people don't teach their children how to behave with animals these days.
Well done!

The older thread is still full of beautiful pet photos, but I figured I should use the newer thread.
We have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Lila and Sam, and my tortoiseshell cat, Phoebe; I'll share photos of them another time.

Here is our newest baby, Tilda (Matilda), holding a lion at bay - her natural job, which, by the look on her face, she appears to be taking very seriously.

A Ridgeback?
Popular here now.
Turquoisewater,

Tilda is beautiful! What a sweetie! Congratulations! She has a very pretty face. I tried to look last night on my Kindle but it didn't show the pic. I can view it this morning from my laptop. Nothing is better than a new puppy in the house. ♥

Yes, lpp, a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I've wanted one for about 10 years so she's a dream come true.

lilybelle, thank you. Your Queenie is precious! She looks so soft and I want to kiss her!

Thank you, T! She's pretty rotten but I love her.

Queenie says "why, thank you!". She's pouting here because she's in jail rather than out chasing bunnies. She and my husband go get the mail together every day, and while they do that she thinks it's her job to secure the perimeter and chase down everything that moves.

I love all the pet photos! This thread is so inspiring. I have a black mini poodle who goes to a groomer; the groomer always asks if I want perfume for Curly, but I always say no. There is something comforting about her odor, even when it's not so good. The other animal that smells good to me is the horse. Or better yet, the barn with the horse and its tack. Very nice.
Curly11, Curly sounds sweet. I don't mind my dog's odor either. I like it, and I like the horsey smells, too, just like you do. When I was a little girl we had a mini black poodle named Mr. John. I have no idea why he was called that.

What beautiful pet pics, everyone! What would we do without them? They are our best friends. Maybe I should speak for myself, though, lol!
@lilybelle. Thanks for the compliment about Curly . She is usually sweet, but definitely has a mind of her own especially when it comes to chasing something. She is obsessed with her tennis ball and wants me to throw it for her just about every waking moment. I have a really cute photo of her on my ipad, but I don't know how to get it onto this thread.
Hehe Curly - my lot think if I throw a ball it's 'cos I don't want it...love 2 see the pic 'though

Sorry about the pic orientation. If anybody knows how to fix this problem, please tell me.

I can't stop laughing at the one on the left! Love him. Growing up, my best friend's family always had mastiffs. We were always slipping in slobber.

This is a gorgeous dog. What a beautiful face.
High-rise living is loaded with little dogs, so when I see a big one, like a Ridgeback, I have to stop the owner and play. It often annoys my friends.

Aw, cute Curly - well done for posting it
Have fun T - lovely dogs.

This is my current bunch of 'rescues'.

Such beautiful dogs. Are they Samoyeds?
Thank u - yes, brilliant with children, less so with very small, furry things....
All spayed & chipped.

Poodles are pretty lively too - lovely personalities
post #37 of 38
Curly is gorgeous! I'm not sure how you get that photo upright. Was it sideways on your computer? I think you can rotate it 90 degrees, if so.

And Lpp, I love your rescues! My dog is a rescue, too. Although who rescued whom, is the question.

I can't get over Matilda's face. I just want to smooch on her.
Thank u - I think they normally rescue us lilybelle - yours looks a real scamp
