Short review: VINTAGE aftershaves (Quality Test)

Thread Starter
Confrontation between six GREAT aftershaves from the past (all doscontinued)
Tests are based on longevity on papers (mouillettes).
How long will the scent survive on paper?
Can a vintage aftershave match with modern, diluted fragrances?

PATOU POUR HOMME, MOSCHINO POUR HOMME, NINO CERRUTI

GUCCI POUR HOMME, EAU SAUVAGE, YVES SAINT LAURENT M7

RESULTS
All aftershaves stay for at least 2 days (48 hours).
The best is: Yves Saint Laurent M7 (about 4 days)
The worst is: Cerruti pour Homme (2 days)
All other between 2 and 3 days.

Final consideration: each of these aftershaves is of OUTSTANDING quality. Almost none of modern ASs have a longevity on paper longest than a few hours.
You could use any of them as an EDT.

I'm more interested how they perform on skin. Vintage Bleu Marine by Cardin and M de Morabito are very strong. Among recent ones, Challenge by Lacoste is very strong but now it seems too "synthetic" to me. Vera Wang for Men's A/S is really good in every way and I think I like it better than the EdT. I've also got a rare experimental A/S bottle of KL Lagerfeld for Men and that also had very good longevity. Lastly, the French Fragrances version of Grey Flannel A/S is at least around EdC in strength.

Can't even remember the last time I owned an after shave.

I get great longevity from my vintage Eau Sauvage aftershave- around 7 hrs if I spray it liberally, which I do. I have also had great longevity from vintage Antaeus aftershave and vintage Egoiste aftershave.

The only modern aftershave I have owned is Dirty English which lasted all of 30 mins, both 'on my skin' as well as 'in my collection'.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
