Declaration D'un Soir by Cartier 3.4 oz Eau De Toilette

Blind bought this. Smells pretty good, and I like the concept.

Wore this at work yesterday. Coworker who visited my cubicle: "What's that smell? It smells like pens people would get high off of. It stinks." Me: (Silence...)

Dislike the name, like the fragrance. Got this for cheap at Ross.

Yesterday, I made my second frag purchase in a week. However, while the last one was $15, this one cost about nine times as much... but was worth every penny.

I was in Chicago that day, and stopped by the Saks on Michigan Avenue, as they had the By Kilian line; Straight to Heaven has been my most-complimented fragrance ever, creaming previous record holder Terre d'Hermes. I had been eyeing Basenotes favorite Back to Black for a second scent from the house for over a year, and with some excess money in hand, I finally took the plunge. Like with the Chrome that I got at Walmart a few days earlier, I got the travel spray of Back to Black (black sprayer with 1 .25 oz vial inside and 3 same-sized refills for a total of 1 ounce of juice). My second impressions (I got a sample vial from Kilian in the mail once, which made me want this): If there is one fragrance that could top Straight to Heaven in compliments, this could very well be the one.

Oh, and if you visit the Michigan Avenue Saks, ask for Daniel Vinson, the Kilian salesperson. He was extremely knowledgeable about the By Kilian line, loaded me up with samples, and he even gave me some H2O to drink while he grabbed the size of Back to Black that I wanted. Excellent service all around... far better than the Creed saleslady at the Neiman Marcus across the street that wasn't too interested in me. Unlike Daniel, the NM lady didn't provide much help aside from answering a price and availability question regarding a 1 oz Aventus (which I'm glad I didn't get).

On a purchase binge today. Just bought the six Editions Rares scents from Histoires de Parfums 60ml each. Normally would not buy this size, but since all the other Men's and unisex scents in their line I have are 125ml. Wanted to keep the integrity of the line in my collection, so I gave in.

I keep a close eye on these threads every month and I have to say that this is the most domination I've seen from a single user on Basenotes for a particular month. Fantastic month for you, congrats and enjoy!

M7 Vintage,

Released in 2002, M7 is the seventh YSL male fragrance, by the time Tom Ford was responsible for the artistic direction of YSL.
Its exquisite, reddish, modern and retro looking bootle, was designed by Tom Ford in partnership with Doug Lloyd.
The parfumeurs behind M7 are Jacques Cavallier and Alberto Morillas.
Suffice to mention that M7 has started a tsunami of Oud based fragrances in the market and has created a new genre in perfumery: the “Oud” based fragrances.
But what is actually Oud?
Oud is the reaction of the agar wood tree to a fungal or bacterial attack.

Where does Oud come from?
In General Asia, the currently biggest world’s Oud producers are: Bangladesh, Indonesia and India.

Why is Oud so expensive?
Due to the low yield from plant material.
Rumor has it, that the highest-quality Oud, once upon a time, was extracted from trees that were older than one hundred years.
In today’s market, (allegedly) it takes approximately thirty years to produce Oud with the best quality.
However, synthesized versions of Oud are available.
Unfortunately, these suffer from a lack of depth and smokiness compared to the natural Oud.

This review corresponds to the two versions of M7: The vintage one (Released in 2002) and the latest reformulated version.
Please keep in mind, that this review does not apply to the M7 Oud Absolu (The black squared bottle with a twisted lid)

M7 - Olfactory pyramid

Top – Rosemary, mandarin, bergamot
Heart – Oud, vetiver
Base – Amber, musk

M7 - Vintage
Top notes - Transparent, airy, daring
Middle notes - Multi dimensional with depth and magnitude
Base notes - Comforting, warm, smoky
Longevity - About 14 hours and skin scent after 10 hours
Projection - Solid

M7 - Latest Reformulation
Top notes - Pronounced, candied, syrupy
Middle notes - Two dimensional, safeguarded, constant
Base notes - Balanced, warm, smoky
Longevity - About 10 hours and skin scent after 08 hours
Projection - Good, however it is tamed compared to the first formulation

M7,

The scent transports me right to a set of a “Film noir” movie.
Smoke and sensuality, dominates the air.
Two people start a dangerous game of seduction and among them the carnal contact is the ultimate reward.
The game ends with a tie result, mundane needs are satisfied.
