Black Tie Event - GIT or Aventus?

Gents, I'm attending a black tie event tonight. Should I wear GIT or Aventus? Thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Either one would work, but when I think black tie, I'd sooner reach for GIT than Aventus personally (although I'd probably pick something different like IB or Windsor).

Green Irish Tweed.

Any other options? Not that either one is wrong but I think you could do much better (conservative).

Drakkar Noir.

Or Aventus.

I don't like aventus so I will go with git. If i have to pick one in my collection encre noire for sure

I don't think either are quite right for black tie, but Aventus is much less likely to offend people.

If it really must be one of those two, I'd say GIT. But neither are preferable.

I do have others in my collection--Rive Gauche, Bleu de Chanel and Himalaya. As of now, I'm leaning towards GIT. Thanks everyone for the input.

In my opinion, GIT has that understated elegance perfectly suited for this event.

Black tie implies evening (but you never know nowadays) so if I had the option I would choose something like BdP or La Nuit de l'Homme, but between GIT and Aventus, I'd choose GIT. Aventus is a bit too fruity for evening.

Aventus for absolutely any occasion, except perhaps a walk in the forest (then I'd pick Green Irish Tweed). One actually pulls compliments and smells uniquely, the other one is nature encapsulated in a bottle, and it's more nature, green smelling than perfume smelling. I don't want to smell like nature when wearing a perfume....obviously you can tell I haven't exactly gotten the best reception when wearing Green Irish Tweed hahaha

If you want to be discreet - GIT...someone else will also likely be wearing it.

My thoughts exactly. I was literally coming here to type exactly this, practically word for word.

GIT ticks all the required boxes for such an occasion.

GIT or Aventus would be very good in that situation. You say you also have Bleu de Chanel and Himalaya - I think either of those would work very well also. Aventus is perfect in virtually every situation, but GIT may be slightly better for a formal event.

When I think Black Tie / formal event, I first think of Ormonde Man.

My vote would go to Bleu de Chanel but it looks like GIT will win. Can't really go wrong with that.

Yah, just recently bought Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, and they may as well have named it Tom Ford Formal Event. That's right up its alley.

Aventus. It just smells more unique, luxurious, and sophisticated.

Agree with OctaVariuM. Quietly understated would be my choice. Between GIT and Aventus, it's GIT without question. Aventus can just be too loud for me in that setting.

GIT over Aventus anywhere, black tie event or no.

Neither. Sorry, but Bois du Portugal would be a better choice.

So I ended up wearing GIT, which was an excellent choice. Thanks guys for the recommendations. I sprayed some on my pocket square and two shots to the neck--lasted all night with plenty of longevity. The more I wear GIT, the more I'm convinced, in my opinion, it's the best cologne out there.

You reckon? I have only ever come across one person who even knows of Creed, never mind owning any.

GIT was a great choice but saying it's the best ever is going to far.
