Chypre Palatin thoughts

So, I decided to wear this for the first time today (I got it from the sample set, 24mL worth) by splashing it on, and I think it is absolutely beautiful. However, it kind of reminds me and my mom of my grandmother, and it's making me wonder if I could really pull this off in public. I wore it to the store today and didn't feel too out of place with the nice vanilla notes with the white florals, but it reminds me of stuff like Shalimar for some reason.

Anyway, I was wondering what you all thought about the fragrance, and whether you find it challenging to wear or not. I know the Chypre genre is classically feminine, but outside of that I don't have much a frame of reference.

Love to hear your thoughts!

I think it is basically invasion barbare with the chypre aspect to it. It's nice but I prefer IB. I do think CP is masculine and I get no association with old women.

I think for me it's the aldehydes. My mom wears a lot of aldehyde based fragrances and so did my grandmother. I don't really get the IB reference, as that is much more lavender based with that signature cardamom/ginger thing going on. So far I definitely prefer IB, but I do like Chypre Palatin so far.

I found it quite wearable and liked it, but it was too polished and did not have enough oak moss to keep my attention. Not my kind of scent, but certainly quality stuff.

If you like it, wear it.

A very nice fragrance from a great house.

I think it's a wonderful scent. I don't get any feminine or grandmother vibe from it at all. Easy to wear, but perhaps not all that suitable to wear to the store.

Its my favourite release from last year. No mother(y) vibe to me.

Hm, maybe I'll have to just wear it more to rid myself of the grandmother thoughts.

Its a fantastic modern chypre but definitely not kicking around in your grubs. This one deserves a suit.

I think it's nicely made but not terribly interesting. I'm with DRSEID on this one; I think a little more oak moss couldn't have hurt. It's certainly got enough benzoin and vanilla.

I don't have a problem wearing it, but I can see why it could be perceived as slightly feminine.. and it does have that classic perfumy feel. I like it but I don't like the genre enough to own a bottle.

I'm wearing it now and love it. To me it's unisex. The price tag will def keep it in the sample/decant range for me.
