It smells very close to L'Heure Bleu to me, too. Hasu-No-Hana and Phul-Nana are gorgeous as well, reminiscent of the great classics.

It smells a lot more complex than current LHB. It is also more flowery and lacks the medicinal je ne sais quoi in the opening. I'd rather buy Shem El Nessim than any version of current LHB.

This was my experience as well.

Nonetheless, I have about 1/2 a bottle of vintage LHB PdT that I am wearing sparingly. Gorgeous stuff!

I'd go for the pure parfum from these.

In no way am I implying the EDPs aren't good. Phenomenal in fact but the parfums are on another level. They come in 10ml and 100ml!!!

Yup. Luckyscent shows the 10ml. Would hate to see what the 100ml would go for.

Wait a minute, u can say this particular one is my "one"
Much more creamy and powdery than L'heur blue (owning both).
Bought from urban Retreat, Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie.
Then just after I left, i realised how amazing was the pefume (which i did not buy)
Then was trying for the next 4 months to get it with no hope (left UK)
Until finally my uncle was in London and got me one.
The 10 ml Perume goes for £170
while the 100 ml is £495, i went for the latter.
By the way Hedonist how did h know they come in 100 ml?

If you loved, really loved LHB, then you will be sorely disappointed. If it's your first time ever sniffing it, then ignorance is bliss.

There have been restrictions on eugenol, hydrox-whatever-it-is, heliotropin and a bunch of other ingredients. So the spice is greatly diminished, the lilac note has waned, and there is less marzipan plush. The beautiful leatheriness of the castoreum, which I think was already toned down, has been cleaned out completely. The current LHB finds it's voice in the middle, but I find the beginning and end quite off-key.

And did I mention less projection and longevity? All-in-all it is much more of a violet-iris scent, much closer to what Apres L'ondee used to be.

Thanks Mr. Bon Vivant, that's one accurate analysis to me! If you want the heliotrope marzipan thing from L'Heure Bleue, check out Jarling. Shem el Nessim is too musty, not shining at all. It's mediocre compared to L'Heure Bleue at its best (PdT and 10-20 years old vintage extrait with the florals intact).

Then I'll have to sniff Jarling, too! One of these days when I finally get to Paris... The marzipan was one of my favorite aspects of LHB, although I loved the whole from start to finish. The tip is much appreciated!

And spot on about the PdT and vintage years. Go older than the 80's, and LHB gets dryer and less floral.

Don't expect too much from Jarling! If I needed another heliotrope fix in my life, I'd probably get it, but it's half the story and does not possess LHB's bittersweetness nor its overall magic (the composition).
