If you had to pick one, which is a better overall scent?
More for warmer weather wear in the spring and summer.

Don't take into consideration popularity/overuse.

I'll take the original Acqua di Gio - the first designer fragrance that I ever owned, and a classic that deserves the massive sales that it gets.

As for Acqua di Gio Essenza: Though you can't mistake it for anything but AdG, it is WAY too strong in the winter. And in the spring and summer, Essenza probably will be even more suffocating than in the winter.

I don't think much of them both but essenza is the better..

The original ADG is much better, but I suspect most Basenoters to vote Essenza because it is less known.

From the press release i read; the perfumer has replaced the Calone note with something new called Cascalone, which supposedly gives a fresher spring water sensation at the opening and a new element called Paradisone that enhances the middle stage in Essenza.

Personally i dont really like the current version of AdG. The persimmon fruit note is gone and replaced by just something fruity there.

Out of these two, Essenza

I'd go with Essenza.

Essenza version is way better, refined and with more character.

Essenza is a small improvement of ADG. At twice the price it's a no brainer.

Prefer AdG, Essenza to clawing.

Essenza is supposedly spicier and it seemed to be stronger and last longer. But I'm not sure if its as much of an aquatic as the original is.

I've recently come to really embrace Essenza. IMHO it is the better scent. I don't find it cloying or too strong.

Essenza is better done with a notably higher quality of components.

They are both excellent scents, but I much prefer Essenza. It's AdG, but all grown up. It's really more of a floral aromatic than an aquatic, and it's one of the best modern floral aromatics out there, imo.

Essenza is an improvement on the already fantastic original.

Both are great.
I own 200 ml ADG original and 180 ml ADG Essenza.
Almost always blend them.

Essenza is my favorite of the two though.

My pick today when i had to run some errands this morning. The scent is still AdG but with a good improvement, kind of give me a faint spearmint and fruity aura surround me when the weather is actually quite warm here today. Pretty nice

Either or. Doesn't really matter. If you have one, you don't need the other.
