Moods by Krizia

Thread Starter
1989 Woody Chypre. Sharp opening with ginger and pimento in the heartnotes coming front and center quickly.

The citrus in the top notes seem to have a hard time getting a foothold. Rose doesn't waste much time either making a showing ensuring the mids win this battle.

I would have loved the cedar to be more dominant once the base gets hold. It's just too subtle and has me wondering about the Woody category. Even well after the scent should be into drydown, I still smell the middle accord.

Moods Uomo has good sillage and longevity, but I can't say I care for it much anymore. I guess I'm not a rose dominate scent lover.

I did like this one but I just could not get it to last on my skin

I had no problem with longevity with this. There is a note in this juice that's "fuzzy" or "prickly" ( I know....bad description ), but it's this note or collaboration of notes that is off-putting to me.

Earlier, I thought it was rose, but I doubt that now after thinking it through. Other frags with either dominant or subordinate rose are likable to me, so I am unsure what it is about this scent that's unsettling.
I love rose scents, particularly when the rose is blended with patchouli. Is this the case with Moods?

I think I might buy this one blind. Even though it's dc'd, I've seen it priced very reasonably on the net.
Just got a bottle of this juice. This is great stuff. Aromi, I agree with your initial impressions of Moods - this is definitely a rose dominated scent with a patchouli base. Not a typical powerhouse because I think it's more refined than a lot of other 80s stuff, but its got enough sillage and longevity to qualify.
This sounds interesting. I like the rose/ginger as a combination in a number of fragrances I already know - for example Penhaglion's Elixir and Tocca's Brigitte.
I can't say I' smell any ginger, but then again, I'm not great at picking out notes in fragrances all the time. I smell more of a rose and patchouli accord. It's a beautiful scent, and long lasting. I just wrote a review of it.
I thought I'd bump this thread to the front, since there's been lots of talk recently about rose & patch scents. Moods is at a dead tie w/Zino (R.I.P.) for my favorite scent containing my favorite accord.

Moods is ultra-smooth from start to finish, unlike Zino, which screams out of the bottle initially then cools down significantly. It starts with a strong warm tobacco note, which fades after about a half hour, revealing the rose and patchouli. It's hard to say whether the rose or the patchouli is more prominent because they are so perfectly blended, as if they create a new single fragrance note.

Moods was criminally discontinued, but thankfully it's still pretty easy to find online, and is still inexpensive. Smells expensive though. A five-star fragrance for sure.

Please tell us, Shamu, that in your last post, the reference immediately following Zino (i.e.,"R.I.P.") does not indicate that Zino has been discontinued.
Unfortunately, yes. On Tuesday, Davidoff announced that they are discontinuing all of their scents, except Cool Water(yawn...), that were released before 2003. This includes Zino.

Time to start the hoarding.
I wore Moods today, and it finally hit me - Moods basically is Azzaro Pour Homme with rose added. How awesome is that?!

Like Azzaro PH, it doesn't kill you with brutal spiciness - its powerhouse ways come from the warm, rich cloud of scent that envelops you for hours. On my skin, Moods projects pretty far.

So any of you guys who haven't yet tried this and are fans of Azzaro Pour Homme (perfaddict and seasoldiermarine I hope you're reading this) and like rose, you gotta try this. It's still cheap online, so it's worth a blind buy (I bought mine blind).
My bottle of Moods Uomo arrived at my house yesterday. I can hardly wait to try it out after I get home tomorrow night. It is a blind buy, but I feel relatively certain that I'm going to love it. I will report back soon on this one!

Hooked on the Rose & Patchouli accord ever since Zino Davidoff!!!
I'd be surprise if you didn't really like it, SM. It is the smoothest scent I own, out of a collection of about 120 different full bottles. It doesn't really smell like Zino. It is a lot smoother than Zino, and it has a dry hint of tobacco. Personally I find Moods to be a powerhouse, but a refined powerhouse. It has much bigger sillage than Zino, about the same longevity. It's not brash or rough at all, but it rather exudes the same calm, confident attitude that Giorgio For Men does, and I consider Giorgio to be an extremely smooth scent.
Well....I gave Moods Uomo a full day's wear at work a couple of days ago, and I must say that this is a very strong, very refined fragrance. It is stronger and has better projection than Zino Davidoff, and while the Rose and Patchouli accord is fairly similar in both fragrances, Moods is a bit brighter in its opening due to the inclusion of Ginger, which I detect in a very well-balanced amount. Actually, I prefer Zino Davidoff. Zino wears closer to the skin, and the rose/patchouli accord (which I now consider to be one of my favorite accords [thanks, shamu!]) is darker and has better longevity than Moods. Even though Moods is initially stronger than Zino, Zino lasts longer on my skin. I therefore must conclude that while Moods is excellent, and it definitely already has an esteemed place in my wardrobe, the 5 to 7 hour longevity declassifies it as a powerhouse, in my opinion. (continued........)
I find that it is similar to Azzaro pour Homme in that it seems to me to be "too-well behaved" (a term which I have used more than once, thanks to Diamondflame) to be a powerhouse. That 'edge/attitude' seems to be absent. I will say, however, that Moods Uomo is a beautiful fragrance, and one that certainly deserves recognition as a very refined 'powerhouse' runner-up, at very least. Those that disagree with me, please have at it!
Initially when I bought Moods, I was on the fence about whether it's a powerhouse (see my early posts in this thread). But since then, I've changed my mind. I get very good longevity and sillage from it. I can still smell it on myself a good 8 to 10 hours later, which is good in my book. As I mentioned earlier, I put Moods in a category that I would call "Super Smooth Powerhouses" along with Giorgio For Men and KL Homme. It's also got enough attitude in my book to qualify. It's not a monster by any means, but I think it passes muster.

I remember Dimitrios posting in the men's forum that he's also a big fan of Moods. What's your verdict on this one, Dimitrios?
@Shamu1

Just read this thread. You wrote about this scent as being Azzaro ph with a rose scent. Does that mean it's similar to Azzaro Acteur which is a little like ph as well but with a (tea) rose added?!
I agree that Krizia Moods Uomo has got the same type of vibe as Azzaro PH and Giorgio for Men - the warm, ethereal glow effect - and it has a fair amount of rose but, in my opinion, it's nothing like Acteur (which I wear quite a bit). Acteur has a slightly sweet (fruity) undertone, more like a less dusty, spicy Zino, whereas Moods is refined and indeed, 'super smooth'. Personally I get the tobacco in the drydown more than the rose. I feel my earlier remark about Moods has just confused things for you!!!! Sorry! If you like Tobacco/Rose go for the Moods, if you like Pine/Herbal go for the Krizia Uomo - you won't be disappointed whichever you choose - they're both A1 frags.
@Derby

Nah u didn't really confuse me, but I just wanted to know what kind of rose it was. I also have Acteur and like it very much, though I like the drydown of Zino (and its rose note) and Giorgio even better! Indeed smooth but still heavy and manly! As you probably already read in the other thread I made my choice and Krizia Moods it is and has been ordered (together with H Z-14) already! Thanks again!
Hope you like it! I don't want to be Slayerized!!!!!!!!!
If I don't like it I'll slayerize u all over with Bijan for men! lol
post #23 of 53
Moods is the balls. I've got three bottles of it, that's how big a fan I am of Moods. I agree with Derby that tobacco is the predominant note, but everything's so perfectly blended - the rose, leather, moss, patchouli - you don't really smell any one note sticking out. It's the smoothest powerscent I own.

I don't smell much similarity to Acteur, where the rose hits you in the face like a brick. Acteur is great, but I think Moods is a lot better because it's better balanced.
Yeah, I already understood that it's more the rose like in Zino, which I also own and really adore! (you really can get Zino here everywhere for cheap prices, 125 ml.........but it's probably a sign of discontinuation anyway, though this is already going on for almost two years now................guess noone here buys Zino!) anyway, I am getting more and more curious now as Acteur which I also own is really well blended in my opinion and is considered to be like a top niche scent in smell etc., though I like the rose more in Zino than in Acteur which is more tea-like and gets after a macho opening way more softer and more smooth and less macho, while Zino keeps on screaming masculanity. Ah well, maybe it doesn't make any sense what I am saying as there is no vanilla in Acteur mixed with the rose as there is in Zino. Can't wait for moods to try!
@Shamu, me again, with 1 more question about Moods................

How come that (after reading all reviews, threads etc.) that eg. u say u get 24 hrs longevity (which is a lot!) and one reviewer writes about 3 hours and others write about short longevity as well?
Quite a big difference to me in some reviews regarding longevity. Is this all "dry-skin-related"?
Hi Slayerized - just thought I'd chip in. I can also testify that Moods lasts a long time - I wore it for a long day a couple of weeks ago. I applied 3 or 4 good splashes from my mini 5ml bottle at around 9am and by around 8pm when I changed and showered I could still smell it strongly. When I washed my shirt a few days later it still smelled of Moods - mainly the tobacco & patchouli!
I've never been able to get along with Moods. To me the notes are very 'screetchy', grinding against each other on my skin and it makes me feel a bit ill. I don't know quite what it is about this one but it's not for me. I've tried a few times but I may have to walk away from it.
I don't know why it lasts so long for me. I guess it's either skin type or my sense of smell. Granted, it doesn't smell strong after like 4 hours, but I can still smell it for about 24 hours. It's just not super strong after a while; that doesn't mean I can't still smell it.

Get this too: there are some frags that give me terrible longevity but last a good while for others. Eau Sauvage, e.g., is one of my favorites, but I can't smell it at all after an hour or two. I've read posts from other BN'ers who say they can smell it all day with like 3 or 4 sprays. Go figure.
As far as I know Eau Sauvage is really well known for its bad longevity by almost all Basenoters (max 5 hrs) but is compensated by its fine sophisticated smell.
Just received my Krizia Moods this morning!
It's the 100 ml splash bottle as only the 50 ml here goes with a spray. I chose the 100 ml splash as it was exact the same price as the 50 ml spray.
Splashed some on my arm a few hrs ago and to me the fragrance is really smooth and earthty with definite patchouli and tobacco notes. In the vibe of Fahrenheit (which I never owned but know the smell of) without the gasoline. It's a pretty close scent but it's there. The first minute of the opening reminded me of a little softer version of Bogart's Witness. To be continued.
Phew! Glad you like it - let us know how you find the longevity - I've found it to last VERY well (and Shamu's reviews suggest he finds it pretty good too - 24hrs!!)
It's a hard frag not to like. It is super smooth, but I still consider it a powerhouse. I get big sillage from it, and to me it smells like it fits right in with all the other 80s monsters, even if it is more refined.
Doesn't seem to last that long on me at this moment. After a shower at the end of the afternoon I took like big 5 splashes and put all on my neck (4x), chest (1x) and a big one on my arm. 1.5 hrs later my girlfriend can still smell it around my neck, though close but I cannot detect anything at all from my arm anymore, neither can she! I had the same with Dsquared Rocky Mountain Wood, which didn't last at all on me after first applications, but grew on me (or my nose) when I wore it more often and now I got like 5/6 hrs of it. I also had this with Witness and Moschino Uomo?. They both do fine now, time after time again when I wear those. I don't know what it is with me but I am sure it isn't oilfactory-fatigue but something like the scent getting used to the skin. Is that possible? (anyone?) Weird. (can also be that I was a smoker for many many years and that my nose is fucked up).
Further on, I don't detect any form of a rose nor leather note, for me it stays pretty lineair and smells extremely earthy. As long as I can smell it myself I like it though. As I said it smells like a kind of fahrenheit to me without any gasoline note.
It could also be that the splash bottle I got is really really old and in bad shape, I don't know.
To be continued.
Seriously, my just received (old?!) splash 100 ml bottle must have gone a little bad I guess.............Has to be......damn it...........

I tested Moods pretty serious all day and evening, even with washings inbetween and dousing myself in the stuff, using it even like aftershave, on face, arms, neck etc. and all I got was like two hrs the most in longevity of which 1 hr close to the skin and then................woooosh, it's vanished completely! Time after time again!

The opening and first half hour is really amazingly great (top notes are ok!) and is like Shamu1 described it but then.........................close to the skin for 1.5 hrs max with just a little earthy lineair smell till it's gone. No rose, no leather to be detected at all.
No oilfactory fatigue as my my girlfriend couldn't smell it on me (a doused neck!) either during all those tests after above mentioned periods. Too bad! (we even went outside in the garden to be able to smell it better in the freshness outside, lol)

For me it is and works like an aftershave for 2 hrs max, but that's all there is to it for now. Will come back to this as all the above might change........................lol
post #35 of 53
The aftershave is on sale at ebay , they are asking $11.95 for the 1.7 oz. bottle, I was getting ready to buy and then I saw your entry Slayer, no longevity at all, if that is the case with the EdT, imagine how long the AS will last, so I am having doubts. Anybody cares to comment?
I'd say don't wear it for a couple of weeks, then go back to it and see what happens. Put it on when you don't have any expectations at all.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if your splash bottle has gone bad. That's the problem with splash bottles, it's too easy for air to get inside, which can damage the fragrance. I have three bottles of Moods, one spray and two big splash bottles. The two splash bottles are for backup, so I haven't worn them yet. I'm still using my spray bottle.
2 of the reviews of this say it smells exactly like Cigar by Remy Latour. Do any of you guys get that comparison? I really don't get it from Shamu's review, but I have never smelled it myself. I was thinking about buying it until I read it was like Cigar so I just want to see if anyone else gets the comparison.
Shamu1@

My idea was to buy a decant with an atomizer next Saturday downtown to put the stuff in and be able to spray it.
I can also use it for Witness which is also splash and of which I read in a review/thread that people wish it had a sprayer for better overall smell and longevity.

What about that?
It should DEFINITELY last longer than a couple of hours - I only have a tiny 5ml sample bottle and if I apply literally 2 or 3 drops from this it lasts 12hrs + and was still very noticable on clothing the next day!!!!
As I said my bottle must have gone bad as I also do not smell any rose, leather or vanilla at all, nor does my girlfriend who even started to laugh when I mentioned that there was also vanilla in it (she detects vanilla instantly).
Only an earthy like very very soft smell, after the 30 mins opening, which vanishes after 1.5 hrs the most.
(I will try to buy that decant atomizer anyway this Saturday)
Bought a cheap 5ml decant, put the "Moods" in and tried it again..............nope.................bottle must have gone bad.
Again only some weird opening, then after 30 mins that mossy smell and 1.5 hr later all gone. No rose, vanilla, or leather to be detected.
Wrote the website a complaint.
I noticed that a ton of websites are selling the 100 ml. splash these days for cheap. I have to wonder if some big distributor had this enormous back inventory of the stuff, which was poorly stored, and sold it at fire sale prices to all of these online retailers. Moods was dc'ed a while ago.

I bought two of those splash bottles, but I haven't worn them yet. Dabbing a little bit on my wrist, the juice smelled perfectly fine to me. I'll need to give it the full day testing.
Yeah, maybe you are right about that.
Will keep u updated about the complaint I made. I proposed a trade or a money refund.
Just spoke to the sales accountant and I can keep the Krizia Moods and he proposed to either refund me the money or let me choose a new bottle.
I chose to get Vermeil for men which was accepted and will be sent to me immediately. Very nice guy and perfect service if I may say so!
Don't know yet what to do with this weird version of Krizia Moods now................
I finally got rid of my Krizia Moods 100 ml splash bottle (really hope the guy will like it as he owned moods before.....).

I could trade it together with Cuba Black (a 10 buck 100 ml cheapie, smelling like a cheap Azzaro ph) and got myself 20 euros + vintage Dior Fahrenheit 50ml (the Silver colored limited edition from 11/12 years ago) + a 10 ml vintage mini splash bottle of Fahrenheit. Just received it and is all very ok!

You won't hear me complain! Long live the gasoline! lol
post #46 of 53
Got a bottle of Moods by Krizia off the 'Net and it is very smooooottthhh. However, for the drydown it smells very much like Georgio BH IMO. VERY much. That is not a bad thing as I love Giorgio BH. For $25 it's a good buy, but I prefer Gerogio BH for a bit more 'Wowza!"
Finally bought a bottle of this hoping it's a good bottle(it's a silver cap 1.7oz spray). I hope it gets here by tuesday or wednesday.
I got my 1.7oz splash yesterday. I really like it a lot; it is like a much smoother better blended Cigar with rose in it. I wish they would bring this one back. I don't get why they discontinue stuff anyway. If I were a fragrance house I would do like Disney does with thier classic animated movies and bring things out of the vault every few years or so.
Add me to the list of Moods fans. There's a smokiness to this that I love; it's similar (the smoke) to Fracas and Francesco Smalto (men's frags) but the blend with the leathery floral tone of Moods puts it into a special category. Not truly a powerhouse, but a refined genteman.
Hi everyone,
I purchased it blind after reading the reviews. I purchased the 100ml splash, before reading this thread and it also turned to be a dud. It dissipates in minutes.
Really??
Did you read all my posts in this thread?
It was my most horrible blind buy ever! Also the 100ml splash version!
The opening smelled like old cognac which was incredibly strong and suddenly it faded into.................nothing! 1-1.5 hours detectable at best!
I never experienced something that strong in the opening and then completely fading that fast again, or it must be the new formulation of Zino which is horrible on longevity. I made a good deal, after calling the online seller, got Vermeil for free and could keep my Moods which I sold later to someone who I warned but never ever complained!!
a 3.4 fl oz bottle so treaured, time warp to the mighty 80's, just a masterpiece!
Krizia Moods Uomo is an absolutely breath-taking scent. The incredible richness - it is actually oily upon application due to its very high level of aromatic essential compounds! I have so much respect for the house of Krizia...and this is their absolute masterpiece!

The mind-blowing opening that transcends into the elegant rose heart wrapped in golden tobacco leaf, to the drydown that lasts for 8-10+ hours on skin and literally a week on clothing...there is simply no scent like it. People get a likeness to Givenchy Gentleman - but that is only in reference to the patchouli, rose and some spices (which are actually all utilized and presented differently in Moods). I will not compare the two scents as they are each unto themselves, sheer brilliance. A distinct, masculine powerhouse that is articulate and refined.

A bottle from Italy in 1989 - that smells, to me, like near perfection...and timeless. A "must have" in my collection. Salud!
