    Default Incense? What's in it?

I have read reference to frags being classified as incense scents. *What particular notes would bring a frag into this category. *What does this label mean?

Incense refers to frankincense (sometimes called olibanum by perfumers) and sometimes myrrh, which are resins derived from East African trees. The notes used nowadays may be synthetic.

Along those same lines, how do companies make scents smoky? You can't really have smoke extract : I suppose its synthetic.

Rectified birch tar is used in perfumery for a smoky smell. It smells great! And there's probably a lot of chemicals that smell smooky too. Isobutyl quinoline for instance.

Incense, the classic catholic church incense, is extracted from Boswellia Carterii, which is a plant. The leaves of this plant have the typical church incense smelling. The essential oil is easily available and not very expensive. It's also very good for the skincare.

Mmm...birch tar, I absolutely love it! It should be used much, MUCH more.

Eau d`Hermes has a fantastic birch note, for instance.
Declaration`s a tad smoky aroma comes also from birch tar, I believe. It makes that scent quite tea-ish, imo.
