Paco Rabanne PH
Hello gentlemen, I was looking for a few extra recommendations in terms of 70s style scents (doesn't have to be from the '70s) in the vein of Azzaro Pour Homme, YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, and Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur. Might as well lump Faberge Brut in there too. I already have these four. I am finding myself gravitating towards them lately. Just today, I wore Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur in the morning, and right now I'm wearing YSL Rive Gauche layered on top of Azzaro Pour Homme.
I've been told to try out Aramis Tuscany. I've so far been unable to find it in department stores and Scentiment in my area. What else out there has this great '70s style aura about it? I don't even know what general category these fit in, but I know that when I smell then, I think SEVENTIES! (I was born in 1983, hehehe.)
Thanks in advance.
No longer offering decants. Sorry!
Paco Rabanne PH
Top 5: Obsession | Eau sauvage | Antaeus | Bel Ami | Platinum …goÔste
For something along the line of Azzaro:
Quorum (just for Azzaro's top notes)
M7 (the ambery drydown, but much louder)
Pierre Cardin PM:
Diptyche (sp?) L'Eau (in particular)
Others have compared Pierre Cardin PM to Habit Rouge, but HR doesn't pack the spiciness of Pierre Cardin IMHO.
Jeez if you layered Azzaro with Rive Gauche, you must really love anise! You might try getting some anise essential oil sometime and give it a sniff.
You might also look for Brut Classic sometime ... not the plastic square sort of bottle in the drugstore, but the one with the long "phallic" neck and the metal chain. It doesn't last as long as Rive Gauche (though possibly longer than Azzaro), but I find it to be more refreshing, definitely more floral. I like both RG & Brut Classic ... but I tend to go apes*it when I wear Brut Classic, I like it that much. If I remember correctly Brut actually came out in 1964, but I guess it hit its peak in the '70s.
In rotation: Greenbriar (new), Silver Mountain Water, Dunhill for Men (1934), Acqua di Parma Colonia, Habit Rouge EDC, Ho Hang, B*Men, Agua Brava
On the cheap side, I'll say Jovan Musk for Men and Canoe. Even though, Canoe came out waaaaay before the 1970's (and the Jovan Musk too, for that matter), it was still quite popular through the 1970's.
On the designer side I'll throw in Polo by Ralph Lauren and Santos by Cartier. Both have that strong chypre/fougere leaning that was the template for many of the more popular scents of that great (?!?!) era.
;D ;D ;D
Francesco Smalto Pour Homme
Cacharel Pour L'Homme
Tuscany Per Uomo Forte
Herrera for Men
like to add:
Versace Black Jeans
Creed Vintage Tabarome
Bijan for Men
Balafre by Lancome and Ted Lapidus pour Homme, for sure!
Wearable 70's and early 80's style frags for me are:
YSL Rive Gauche pour homme and Kouros Cologne Sport (sooo nice, maybe it'll soon make it's way into my top 3!)
Gucci pour homme
Creed Bois du Portugal (classy!)
Davidoff Zino (classy part two)
I am still looking for Tuscany as well. I'd also like to try other 70's and 80's scents, as it was the era when they made unmistakeably manly scents. Fresh and sweet was not really en vogue back then... 8-)
Good choice, as is Azzaro PH.Originally Posted by Belial
The Original Gucci PH was also a fantastic 70's scent.
Bit hard to find now - should never have been discontinued.
I agree for Paco Rabanne PH and suggest Yatagan too
Both are pure heary chest in a bottle!

NO doubt about it.....TRUSSARDI UOMO!
70s scents are unique - something usually very 'raw' about them - Givenchy Gentleman and it's patchouli is very 70s - So is Jovan Sex Appeal - very insensey and 70s - Pierre Cardin, again very 70s... All great picks IMO 8-)
