Cuiron smells like deluxe automobile interiors to me.
So I guess 'the poor man's' version of this smells like the inside of Ted Bundy's old VW? Obviously minus the unorthodox Bundy basenotes of ice-pick, ski-mask and crow bar.

Joking aside I found 100ml of Karl Lagerfeld Classic EDT and 100ml of the aftershave (which has ludicrously good staying power) for a very nominal sum.

I also gave Tabu a go and kind of wish I'd merely gotten over that particular impulse without acting on it. It's not horrible but it ain't grand. I went for cheaper scents after I was impressed by L'Aimant - that was good but Tabu was a bit dull.

Some of the Guerlain men's fragrances like Vetiver are quite reasonable online.

please note that I called it the "very very very" poor man's cuiron. I dont want a bunch of you guys rushing out to buy it, thinking stetson black can sub for cuiron. Giving out that impression could get me many a miffed PM, I'd think.

I used to wear something called "Adonis Sport" that was very cheap, but an extrmeley great aquatic "L'eau par Kenzo-esque" fragrance...

Anyone ever heard of or seen this one?

I haven't seen it anywhere in the three years since the discount drugstore that I used to buy it at closed! I'd love to have a bottle...

I was got 0.5 oz each of Lagerfeld Photo, Classic, Cerruti Image, and 1881 (or whatever that number is) for $7 at Marshalls.

Probably my biggest scrore was 1.3 oz Guerlain Vetiver for $7 at the same store.

At another TJ Maxx I got 3.4 oz Habit Rouge EDC for $20, worth every penny.

Tabac Original EDC I got for $15, probably could get it for much cheaper, but that is another prized possession.
In rotation: Greenbriar (new), Silver Mountain Water, Dunhill for Men (1934), Acqua di Parma Colonia, Habit Rouge EDC, Ho Hang, B*Men, Agua Brava

Agreed Aspen is one of the best of cheep scents. It smells great and gets comments and does last all day that stuff.

My best deals, but not spectacular deals by Basenotes standards, were:

-YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme 4.2oz - C$19.99
-YSL Rive Gauche Opium Pour Homme 3.4oz - C$19.99
-Dana Monsieur Musk 4.2oz - free tester from my dad's pharmacy they were going to throw out anyway, but it is already an inexpensive scent, smells pretty good, and has immense longevity.

But damn, $12 for a Chanel? I love both Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste and I couldn't argue with $12 for either.
    No longer offering decants. Sorry!
