    Default Best Cheap-o Scents

Recently I came across a bottle of Diesel Zero Plus (2.5oz) for a whole $10 at a local discount store. Sure, it's not my favorite scent, but for $10, hell, I can afford to wear it every day (and save my expensive stuff for special occasions) and not feel guilty. What are some of your favorite scents that you able to score on the cheap? Being a college student, I rarely have the money to splurge on a Creed or Bond no.9 and the like (and my Acier Aluminum is almost out!), so good cheap stuff is always good!

    Best Budget Fragrances:

    AXE BodySpray "VooDoo"

    Adidas "Sport Fever"

    Gillette "Cool Wave"

    Stetson "Black"

Less than five bucks each and decent smells for the money.

Sounds like a good score, but is it useful advice for college students and the like? A quick survey of Internet discounters turns up significantly higher prices. Where did you get yours?

Oh geez! I LOVE ZERO PLUS! There is a spicy sweetness that doesn' t cloy, that lasts forever, and I picked it up for $12.99.

Greatest value scent that I ever got was for FREE of my 3 Malle scents! Haha, cheated here a a bit.

EnvYuS...totally jealous of you picking up the Egoiste for just $12.00! I would've swiped the whole shelf of it!

Another thumb up for a Diesel: Zero Plus Plus Masculine (the white bottle?) is awesome and strange enough to be a niche frag

Diesel Plus Plus Masculine is not the same as the Diesel Zero Plus Masculine mentioned above:

Diesel Plus Plus Masculine = white 'milk' bottle. Is an Oriental Aromatic with fresh aromatic top notes over a warm, creamy, musk base. Very similar to Paloma Picasso Minotaure, Dunhill Desire for a Man and Davidoff Coolwater.

Diesel Zero Plus Masculine = red 'gas canister' bottle. Is a gorgeous, almost gourmand, woody oriental with cinnamon & vanilla over sandalwood, cedar and musk notes. Similar to Dana English Leather Spiced, Jean Pierre Sand Paris(another cheap, though not as long lasting cologne), Fendi Theorema (pour femme & pour homme), and Organza Indecence pour femme.

Both are brilliant much underated fragrances (especially within their price range). I am also a bit of a strange one who actually enjoys the unique menthol cinnamon woodiness of Diesel Green feminine! I think it will truly come into its own this summer - especially as an alternative to all the short lived citrus colognes and the insipid, nose burning ozonics, acquatics, etc which emerge en masse at that time of year... >
I am looking to get my hands on a bottle of the masculine as well! ;D
    Favourite (Winter) Crazy Combos

There are several of the Cuba Paris scents (the ones that come in the cigar shaped bottles) that are very good and long lasting. About $5-$10 for an oz.

The Black and the Red one are particularly good.

It smells just like Chanel Platinum Egoiste. And also lasts a long time. I substitute this for Platinum when I want to conserve Platinum.

These are more like great deals than "Cheap-o Scents", but at TJ Maxx I recently found for 12.99 each:

YES! Sex Appeal is fanastic, and I'm going to be picking up a bottle soon - The insence type frag it is, just great - after a few hours, the dry down is great.

    I'd also add:

British Sterling - Dries down like Monsieur Carven, very nice
    Tabac Original - always great
English Leather - the drydown is very nice..

Wow - the poor man's Cuiron? Really?
Cuiron smells like deluxe automobile interiors to me.
So I guess 'the poor man's' version of this smells like the inside of Ted Bundy's old VW? Obviously minus the unorthodox Bundy basenotes of ice-pick, ski-mask and crow bar.

Joking aside I found 100ml of Karl Lagerfeld Classic EDT and 100ml of the aftershave (which has ludicrously good staying power) for a very nominal sum.

I also gave Tabu a go and kind of wish I'd merely gotten over that particular impulse without acting on it. It's not horrible but it ain't grand. I went for cheaper scents after I was impressed by L'Aimant - that was good but Tabu was a bit dull.

Some of the Guerlain men's fragrances like Vetiver are quite reasonable online.

please note that I called it the "very very very" poor man's cuiron. I dont want a bunch of you guys rushing out to buy it, thinking stetson black can sub for cuiron. Giving out that impression could get me many a miffed PM, I'd think.

I used to wear something called "Adonis Sport" that was very cheap, but an extrmeley great aquatic "L'eau par Kenzo-esque" fragrance...

Anyone ever heard of or seen this one?

I haven't seen it anywhere in the three years since the discount drugstore that I used to buy it at closed! I'd love to have a bottle...

I was got 0.5 oz each of Lagerfeld Photo, Classic, Cerruti Image, and 1881 (or whatever that number is) for $7 at Marshalls.

Probably my biggest scrore was 1.3 oz Guerlain Vetiver for $7 at the same store.

At another TJ Maxx I got 3.4 oz Habit Rouge EDC for $20, worth every penny.

Tabac Original EDC I got for $15, probably could get it for much cheaper, but that is another prized possession.

My best deals, but not spectacular deals by Basenotes standards, were:

-YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme 4.2oz - C$19.99
-YSL Rive Gauche Opium Pour Homme 3.4oz - C$19.99
-Dana Monsieur Musk 4.2oz - free tester from my dad's pharmacy they were going to throw out anyway, but it is already an inexpensive scent, smells pretty good, and has immense longevity.

But damn, $12 for a Chanel? I love both Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste and I couldn't argue with $12 for either.
    No longer offering decants. Sorry!
