    Default How to pronounce Guerlain

I patiently waited for the link in the FAQ section to come back alive, but now it appears to be gone. I've also done searches, with no luck. Can someone please tell me how to pronouce Guerlain?

    It's french...

Gwer-lehn (the "lehn" is like a longer "e" used in "lend", as in, to lend someone something...)

I disagree! Isn't it fun when you get contradictory answers to a simple question?

I'd go for Ger-lehn. Not with the w-sound.

I love this threads, although it's rather absurd that a Spanish native gives advice to an English speaker about the pronuntiation of a French word! ;D
That said, I'm with Concord on this one, his transcription may not be exact but it's better than Rashkae's, you can certainly spare the "w". Anyway, if you want to actually listen to what it sounds like I recommend this site:

You can even choose the gender of the speaker. Very cool!

    My stab:

The 'Guer' part is pronounced with a hard 'g' to rhyme with the first syllable of 'very' or 'terror'.

The 'lain' part is like 'land' without the 'd'.

I agree with Dante (for the most part). In french "er" sounds like he is saying. The last part should end in a nasal "ah(n)" type sound i believe...I'm not an expert or anything, i just took a few years of french and usually i can guess pretty well how a french word will be pronounced (hey i was on the national french honor society after all! haha), i haven't been around french much for about 4 years now though, so i am probably off by a bit.

And the "lan" must be spoken as the english men speak "land" without the "d"

Both Concord and Dante tells the right thing, but I just want to add that the lehn(or land) part must be pronounched with a nasal inflexion...

Not sure if Otto's is the correctest, but it definately is the coolest. It makes me imagine Jean-Pierre behind the wheel at a Nascar track, wearing a beret and smoking a gauloises as he tears into the lead. Otto's phonetic transcription is what you'd hear over the loudspeaker.
