Default Notes That Should Not Be Combined

Are there any two fragrance notes that just seem dissonant,
like they should never be combined?

I don't know, but how about a combination like Chocolate
and Civet, for example? I don't think I've smelled such an
accord (or should I say discord?) but I just can't imagine it
    working very well.

Can`t actually think of any impossible compination and I just loved your "idea" of civet&chocolate. Yes indeed, there is a fine challenge for some parfumeur.
( Can you hear me Annick??!!)

I just hate tuberose, so it shouldn`t be messed with anything!

The oranginess with the chocolate/coffee in A*men induces a gag reflex for me.

    Lavender and leather.

    Vetiver and vanilla.

And I agree with Dante on the chocolate and orange. A tad unpleasing.

Ren, i agree on this one, and Eau D' Hermes would be a good example of these 2 clashing notes.

But, for some strange reason, i find this scent to be both repulsive and beautiful at once... :-/
Are you not entertained??? Is this not why you are here??

Cardamom + pretty much everything, especially citrus, very rarely works for me in fragrances. Really don´t like Malle´s Bigarade and Biagiotti´s Aqua di Roma.

Cumin+ pretty much everything, with Eau d'Hermès being the big exception.

heh...I am glad you agree...Hedione on the other hand, one can have as much of it as one pleases - practically. Amazing how different synthetics can be...off to wear Cuir de Russie now.

Any fragrance using Musk for the basenotes without adding in some woods alway smells like piss on me. (Creed's MI, Bulgari pour homme, Emporio Armani's White...etc.)

It doesn't makes me gag, but orange + cocao/coffee smells like Terayaki sauce to me!

Oops, I thought you just picked them at random, but after a search in the Basenote database I am better informed! *
