    Default Balafre Brun smells like........?

Help me out guys. This is driving me nuts. I am wearing Balafre Brun for the first time today. It reminds me strongly of something but I can't put my nose on it. What is the fragrance that I'm thinking of?

Wow! Balafre Brun - where did you get it? I have never smelt it. It took me long enough to find the original. Are they alike at all?

I have not smelled the original so I can't comment on the comparison. I am going to have to dig through my bottles to find what this reminds me of. I am thinking Carven.

There is a bottle offered on the swap list if you are looking for one.

The original Belafre is awesome. Lots of vetiver and wood. Very masculine. The initial blast is very powerful to me but it seems to settle down fairly close to the skin and stays there for a long while. I too would love to compare the Brun and the original...or are they the same scent?! A woody chypre. Here are the notes from top to bottom for the original Belafre::
    Released : 1967 Concept : Chypre
    Style : Variation : Woody

Bergamot oil, Camomile, Cypress, Green Note, Lavender, Neroli,

Carnation, Cedarwood oil, Clary Sage oil, Fern, Geranium, Origanum, Pine Needle,

    Amber, Leather, Musk, Oakmoss, Vetiver,

Are you getting anything like this from your juice?

I suspect Balafre and Balafre Brun may be one and the same.

    Chuck,
I think Lancome renamed the original Balafre 'Balafre Brun' when they introduced Balafre Vert.
    I have all three, and I don't really notice a difference between Balafre and Balafre Brun;
Balafre Vert is something else (and not something good). :

Balafre sometimes reminds me a bit of Cusson's Imperial Leather Soap; maybe that's just because it's
a 'dry' leather chypre with a 'soapy' quality to it. Either way, it's terrific: I have vintage stuff
as well as a new bottle purchased from Scentdirect, and the quality is comparable.

I have an original, full bottle of this one, released in 1967.

It's up for swap if anyone's interested.

Thanks for all the info. guys. I had an early bottle of Balafre (c1977) that I got in Belgium. I also bought some Balafre soap. My recollection is that, despite an updated image, the new scent is identical to the original. What a great scent it is at this time of year
