Default SERGE LUTEN'S Musc Koublai Khan

Does anyone know where I can purchase a bottle of this potent musk? It doesn't appear like MKK is available at any of the regular online outlets like lusciouscargo & aedes.

**For the Musk fans: how does MKK compare to Frederic Malle's Musc Ravageur? (I've gone on a recent musk rampage and have already acquired SMN Musk & LV Musk.)

Also, what is your all-time favorite Musk?

I admit that my first musk was Avon's musk, which was a gift from a friend in India. This musk has been discontinued by Avon but I've kept a little for keepsake. The only other musk I've tried is Kiehl's which wasn't particularly impressing ....

    It's only available here: http://www.salons-shiseido.com/

Whereas MKK is very animalic (the top notes remind me of cows & cowpats but the drydown is, quite incredibly, all soft vanilla and roses), MR is more spicy and ambery.

Muscs Koublaï Khan, Musc Ravageur, Helmut Lang

I purchased mine directly from Lutens' website: http://www.salons-shiseido.com
The service was fast and they sent me a beautiful package including a hand-writen note and some Shiseido samples. Very classy!

It happens I'm on a musk search too. I have tested so far Etro Musk (very soft) and Koublai Khan (very powerful), so I'm looking for something in between. I have a sample of LV Musk but haven't tried it yet. How does SMN Musk compare to this one?

Favorite Musk is L'Artisan Patchouli Patch which is a beautiful musk on patchouli scent. There is very little patchouli in it. MKK is a stinker and highly animalic you need to carefully apply and wait out a couple of hours before you meet people or dogs or cats. Musc Ravageur is a beautiful oriental, sweet cinnamony, dark and rich.

Thank you very much for the info. As directed, I went to the SL Sheseido website but in the "How to order perfume" form there was NO option under Country to choose the US; this makes me question whether they will deliver to the US. Did any of you encounter this problem? Thanks again.

No they don't deliver to the US. Lutens makes 2 lines of fragrances one that they export to the US and one that is non-export and only sold in Paris and they will only ship to Europe. The new Borneo 1834 is also part of this line, that's why these are so hard to find and sell for so much on ebay.

I've sampled Musc Koublai Khan and it just doesn't work on me. The wet donkey note just never goes away on me, I get none of the sweetness or cinnamon. My favorite musks are Musc Ravageur and Kiehl's Musk oil.
Oriscent, AgarAura Pure Ouds, Creed, LIDGE, Patou Pour Homme, tons of niche and rare stuff for sale!

Anyone sample the lighter Musc - Clair de Musc from Serge Lutens. That might be a better option for most people. MKK is for farm hands.

CdM was way too wimpy to my taste, a very mild musk; it was hard to believe it was a Lutens scent. But that's of course good news to those who find Lutenses too much, too "larger than life".

Ignoring the fact that it smells like a 10 dollar white musk bath and body works fragrance, it's 'ok'. Nothing groundbreaking to warrant the price, imho.

    I was thinking cowboys myself.

I love MKK...very animalic...I forget who said it first, but liquid porn is the best two word description I've read for this one.

I also really love Musc Ravageur and Kiehl's. Kiehl's is much closer to MKK than MR, which is more oriental than musk scent to my nose. I'm also one who likes the simple Jovan Musk and the only musk I have yet to add to my collection is SMM's Gold Musk, which I prefer to their regular one.

Do you want the real thing, or are you just talking? I will have to wink when I say it.

Thanks for the confirmation on delivery to the US. Well ... if MKK is for farm hands and smells like donkey I'll have to seriously reconsider

I'm awaiting delivery of the SMN musk and now am questioning whether I should have opted for the Gold Musk instead.

Can anyone verfiy that the Musc Ravageur is only availabe at the Saks in Beverly Hills and New York.
