Default Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme

I am extremely new at this, and I certainly don't claim to be any sort of expert, but I have owned and tried:

    Amouage Dia Homme *
    Amouage Ciel Homme *
    Amouage Gold Homme *
    Gucci Envy
    Gucci Nobile
    Versace Black Jeans
    YSL Opium Homme
Old Spice Original (hey, don't knock this classic)
    Dolce and Gabbana Homme
    Aramis Tuscany

*5 ml decants, in case anyone was thinking I have money to burn

I can truly say than none of the other even come CLOSE to Dolce and Gabbana, it shines so much brighter than the rest that it's almost ridiculous. *Taking a breath of D&G with you eyes closed, and you are in Italy! *You can almost hear the church bells far aoff in the distance, and the soft wind brings a warm breeze over a ripening vineyard, ahhhhhhh.....

D&G is perfect for everything, and anything. *Sports, work, clubs, restaurants, relaxing, romantic, casual, sensual, vacationing; boundless, elegant diversity in a bottle. *I can't think of anything I would rather smell like.

I absolutely agree about how wonderful D&G PH is, although there are a number of other scents that I love just as much.

I think that D&G PH does not get the credit it deserves on this board because many people feel it's overly popular and they associate it with trying-too-hard-to-be-sexy wannabe players. That's a shame because, judged on its own merits, this is an all time great fragrance.

Just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

They used to sell these rubber gloves in Italy in the early Sixties, I think they were called Playtex. I remember they came in a flat, white and blue carton box, and they were scented with something smelling just like D&G Pour Homme does. One whiff and I'm back to the kitchen sink [smiley=grin.gif]

But I do like D&G Pour Homme. I think it's addictive.

I have to agree...popular or not...there really isn't anything that smells quite like it. Its an original.

I agree, it is similar....but upon analyzing side by side there is no comparison as to which is richer and fuller.
    D&G ph is the BOMB!

I think it is nice but a bit simplistic. It is great for layering with something else when you want some extra cedar.

Allow me to be the 1st to crash the D&G love fest. I think it's a reasonably good fragrance, and I was pretty pleased with the bottle I used to own. That said, I have smelled other fragrances in the same "family" that aren't that different from D&G PH, and I also have smelled many fragrances that are at least as good as D&G PH, if not better.

As for the masses, well--it's popular for a reason, i.e. it does smell pretty good. That said, it is UBIQUITOUS. When I owned a bottle of it, I frequently found myself asking "Do I really want to smell like everyone else today?"

    Slinger,
You didn't pick anything too similar to compare it to... the only other on that list that I like is Tuscany... and that's a completely different "darker" scent. *I wouldn't say it's better or worse than the D&G, just different. *I ended-up swapping the only bottle of Dolce & Gabbana Homme that I owned because I got burned out on it - I do miss it sometimes though...

    Hi,
I've half a bottle of Dolce Gabbana's Homme and I can't say I enjoy it. I'm glad to see someone does.

Does your bottle have a silver sticker with Dolce & Gabbana on it or is it etched onto the glass itself? The sticker bottles are the original formula and smell amazing.

    Hi Mesaboogie,
it has a silver sticker. It says only 'DOLCE & GABBANA EAU DE TOILETTE'. How wonderful someone can enjoy this. I have had it in my overnight bag as I prefer it to '24 hour shift'. My mistress hasn't complained but my girlfriend keeps her distance when I wear it. .. This fragrance needs a new home. :-D

Like it, don't love it. Must say it is unique and it has gotten me a few compliments over the years. I am at the end of my original bottle and on the fence about repurchasing it.

Yes there is quite a difference between the sticker bottle and the embossed bottle version of Dolce Gabbana ph.
I just wrote the following in one of the threads about reformulated DG ph:

As mentioned in other threads it's simple............

The one with the sticker on the glass (made in Italy! version) is the vintage one (pre 2008/07) and the one with the good smell with tobacco etc.
The one with the signature embossed in the glass (after 2007 formulation) is the new almost lemon only frag (and is made in Germany!).

I have the new formulation already for 2 years and I liked it as a fresh lemony summer scent.
Now I got hold of the made in Italy sticker version and this is so much better!
This is not even a summer frag anymore but a full rich lemon/tobacco based fall/winter frag!

I think both versions layer perfectly and layering makes it a more versatile scent as well!! It also makes the vintage bottle last longer as you have to use less.
I am happy with both but the sticker version is way way better constructed and worth the money!
My Top 10 : (In no particular order)

    - Dolce & Gabbana: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Paco Rabanne: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Loewe: Solo (Absoluto)
    - Chanel: Antaeus
    - Chanel: Egoïste
    - MPG: Santal Noble
    - Guerlain: Vetiver
    - Amouage: Jubilation XXV
    - Dior: Homme Intense
    - YSL: Kouros (Fraicheur)

Not sure if I mixed up the parts of my arms on which I had sprayed different scents but it reminded me of The Dreamer and I didn't care for it.

Funny as I also owned The Dreamer which I sold because I really didn't like it (also not after the opening) and DG ph (vintage) is one of my favourites.
    Talking about different perceptions!
