Acqua di Parma Essenza. It encapsulates the black tie formal attire feel.

Thanks for the quick reply. but i want something a bit modern. That most likely no one has smelled before unless they visit forums like this. i have a sample of amouge tribute coming in the mail.

Creed Royal Oud is my go to formal fragrance. That said, I find it versatile enough to wear in more casual settings as well.

Among others: Creed BDP and REL, Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur, Opium PH EDP, Boucheron PH EDP, Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet may be worth testing.

Try Dior Homme or Dior Homme Intense. Both give off the "formal" vibe but could easily be worn during other occasions.
Madhat Scents - My personal limited run artisan perfume project. NEW Americana Rust (tobacco and wood...no cherry or vanilla filler.) / NEW Engin (aldehydes/amber/wood/smoke.) / NEW NorOud (Oud and Hops - a Northerly bright fragrance.)

Frederic Malle - Geranium Pour Monsieur does the trick for me.

Ysl la nuit is another one for me that i like in formal settings like that. A little sweet, but easy on the nose for others.

As any fragrance, YMMV, but I have zero complaints about AdP Essenza projection or longevity. In fact, many people who commented on it when I was wearing it, always said it was quite strong and they could smell it on me from 6+ feet away. And I'm not known to be going heavy on the sprayer.
