    Default masculine smelling cologne?

Looking for a good long lasting masculine smelling cologne. Currently using Bel-Ami, I like it but would like something a little stronger. Live in a cold climate, so I want it to have some staying power. Any thoughts?

    Welcome to basenotes [smiley=thumbsup.gif],

    I suggest

    Carven Pour Homme
    Creed Bois Du Portugal
    Chanel Egoiste
    Gucci Pour Homme
    Azzaro Visit

Kenzo PH and Kouros last forever, but you may not like the way they smell. I agree somewhat with the Egoiste, Visit and Gucci PH suggestions--they're all great for cool weather.
Top 3: London Gentleman, Blackbeard's Delight, and Sex Panther. (It works 60% of the time, every time.)

    How about Polo?

I'm not sure if it was really as strong as I think, or everyone in the 80's just marinated in the stuff, but I think its one of the kings of duration.

Or perhaps Givenchy Gentleman? Personally, it doesnt' work for me...its patchouli hell...but, it defintitely lasts and packs quite a punch.

Or Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme. Great duration, excellent blend of citrus and tobacco (smells better than you'd expect) with some herbal and spicy accents.

Or Aramis. Its been ages since I smelled this one, but I remember loving it in high school (the 80's) and recall it being quite potent.

Stronger than Bel Ami? That narrows the field considerably. I might suggest a couple from Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier:

    Eau des Iles
    Santal Noble

Both of these are more than adequately strong and are perfect for cooler (cold) weather.

Regards (and welcome aboard) - Aaron

    Access,

Bel Ami is a great choice. I too live in cold climate (Moscow, Russia), love Bel Ami and its staying power on my skin is excellent.

I'd second Givenchy Gentleman and would add Chanel Antaeus, Trussardi Uomo, Guerlain Habit Rouge, Bogart (classic one from 1970s), Quorum, Halston Catalyst (birds are falling off the trees as you walk by) and G.F.Ferre Pontaccio 21, Rochas Lui, Oscar de la Renta pour Lui and, of course, Nina Ricci Phileas (which shreds everything within 5 yards but is very hard to find).
Ugh... just make sure you use one of these at a time ;D.

For the tricky but long-lasting one one try original Comme des Garcons Eau de Parfum.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards, Odor.

    Heritage should do the trick.

Yatagan - Very dry and extremely masculine; unrelentingly so.
Aramis - Reminds me of Yatagan but more complex; not as flat-out masculine
    Halston Z-14
    Quorum
    M7
Trussardi Uomo or Van Cleef & Arpels

Dunhill for Men (1934) - Kind of like Z-14 and it has some of Bel Ami's leather elements, rather than Z-14's pungency. You might not find it lasts on you because it is fairly subtle though.

    Bois du Portugal

YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentrate - extremely long lasting. Starts off citrusy but melts down into a dirty herbal scent. Not hairy chest "I can knock down trees with my little pinky; see..." masculine like Yatagan or Aramis; more of "I am the boss of this office" masculine.

Wow stronger than Bel Ami....hmmmm only things I can think of are Antaeus or Yatagan. I agree with Bois du Portugal being outstanding, but I don't know if it's strong enough. Yatagan and Antaeus are in the leathery chypre breed though, and maybe a little bit stronger.

Habit Rouge by Guerlain - makes Antaeus seem mild-mannered

Route du Vetiver by MPG - like crawling through rotting undergrowth - in a nice way.

Anvers by Ulrich Lang - surprisingly long lasting and "manly"

Jicky by Guerlain - for the civet

    Try these:

    4. Jacomo de Jacomo
    5. Fendi Uomo

I think Versace l'homme (1984) is one of the most masculine scents I've ever owned ... and longest lasting. I've since replaced it with BdP, but for a good "old school" masculine scent, I think it's great.

But the longest lasting cologne I ever wore was Angel Amen. *I put some on in the morning, before work I could still smell it the following day after showering. *And even the day after that, *though it was very faint. *Could be I had too much on in the first place [smiley=huh.gif]. *

I'd have to say Yatagan is extremely masculine smelling. It does smell a bit like celery salt, but its very complex. Its interesting to compare Mugler's B-Men to Yatagan and you will see a similarity in the topnotes, though they immediately run in opposite directions as drydown commences.

Kouros. You have to at least try it. The Cologne Sport version is quite masculine too. Rive Gauche pour Homme and M7 are quite manly, although some say M7 is femme, probably because it is heavy and sweet.

Of all these. I think Yatagan might be the best for your needs.

Creed Bois du Portugal is pretty masculine, and it lasts a good long time. I also agree with Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme. It's a definite "guy smell", as is Boss Baldessarini - the further qualification of Baldessarini being "old rich guy". Carolina Herrera Pour Homme also has a very refined masculine quality - maybe "young rich guy in beautifully tailored suit" is the way to describe it.

I leave out overtly raunchy scents like "Sexu'al" ("Overcompensation Guy&quot, Drakkar Noir ("drunk guy with wandering hands&quot and M7 ("dead guy&quot.

I may be in a minority, but I also think of Armani Pour Homme as being very masculine in character.

Just pick out anything from the early 70's to the late 80's, you'll be fine. They don't make "masculine" fragrances any more, I'm afraid.

Both Drakkar and Polo (the green one) come to my mind. Polo especially reminds me of a middle aged man who was once hardcore. I'm thinking John Wayne type for some reason.
