    Default Ambre Sultan question

I just bought a small vial of Ambre Sultan from an ebay seller. *She decants $15.00 for 1/3oz. from her bottle.

Upon first application I noticed a strong hairspray top note. *Then after about a 1/2 hour, the amber kicks in. *There were no incense notes nor any smokey rich spicyness like described in the reviews on this board. *Anyone else have the same experience?

Everytime I try my sample, I have to run and wash it off. I just cannot get into this rancid scent.

As you said it takes some time for amber to kick in, but I find top notes to be resinous and dark. But the price you paid is kinda low which is quite suspicious. $15 for 1/3oz makes $75 for a full bottle which usually goes for $90.
    Weird!

If you didn't get the resinous incensy opening, I would assume a bad sample.

Agree, the opening of AS is so resinous it's almost nostril-burning. And I've never smelled any hairspray in it.

Really enjoy AS, although I must say I get very little progression from it. Seems extremely linear on me, great scent with uncanny staying power nevertheless.
