Default Looking for a light, everyday (office) cologne

I'm looking for something light, something I can wear at the office, without being too obtrusive on others ("hmm, that smells nice" is the desired effect, rather than "blech, why is he wearing cologne to work?!&quot Something maybe citrus or spice. I'm not a fan of soapy smelling colognes (D&G), nor ones that are overly flowery, though faint flowery undertones are OK as long as the top notes are something else. Oh, and I'm looking for something that's long-lasting! At least 4-5 hrs or so!

    Thanks!

Gendarme, but may be too clean smelling for you

Thanks! I'll catch a whiff of it at Sephora. That, and Gendarme V.

Agree with Gendarme V, but you might find it too soapy. I love it though!

    Also:
    Habit Rouge EDC
Lalique pour Homme AKA "Lalique Lion" EDT (haven't tried EDP)
Eau Sauvage not Eau Sauvage Extreme
    LV Spezie

If you go light with Dunhill for Men (1934) that would be nice: zest-spicy-leather. I'm wearing just a tad too much today but not unbearably so. I'd say 3 spritzes is the right amount. I'm at 4 spritzes today.

Monsieur de Givenchy, although my current furnisher says it's being discontinued. *I don't want to believe her.

Acqua di Parma or the more lemony Acqua di Portofino, my current fav for hot summer days.

Eau du Coq by Guerlain. It disappears in 30 minutes, but leaves a fresh aura in your mind.

    Hi M,

I have to agree with Vic...I just recently purchased HABIT ROUGE (EDT) and...HABIT ROUGE may very be THE best "all round" fragrance I have ever tried. I also like GEIR for the situation you have discribed. Oooh...you might also want to try BOUCHERON ph, CREED BOIS DU PORTUGAL, CREED GIT or FLORIS JF. Best of luck.

    Regard,
    SixCats!

Bvlgari Pour Homme (I prefer the original though....too much grapefruit in the extreme for my nose)
    Silver Mountain Water
    Lanvin is nice

Clinique Happy is a really nice fragrance for the office. Very citrus. However, the staying power isn't that good. You may need to keep a bottle @ the office to freshen up.

Armani Mania is unobtrusive and pleasant. I actually consider it rather bland, but it garnered far more office compliments when I sampled it than anything else I have ever worn.

I had trouble finding an appropriate light, everyday fragrance that lasted. I admit that I find many citrus fragrances too "old man" smelling and I cant stand the watered down aqua trend, so I ended up researching green tea fragrances quite a bit. These are a nice, fresh alternative to straight citrus, though many have citrus notes in them.

Bulgari PH - Nice but a bit sharp (likely the grapefruit), and didnt last at all on me. Very $$$.
Annick Goutal's Dual - Tremendous green tea, a hint of floral and citrus. also expensive. Totally office ready. Would bathe in this if I could afford it.
Jaques Fath's Yang - A good office scent, loved at first, but I got bored with it. I got a bottle that I may not finish.
Roger and Gallet's - The' Vert (green tea). Love it. Fresh and refreshing. Cheap. I also use the soap at times. This is what I find myself reaching for most on hot days. A most underrated fragrance.

I second the Habit Rouge, Clinique Happy and GIT. Someone mentioned Silver Mountain Water, though - I'm wearing this right now and couldn't imagine it at work. Definately a special occasion/evening thing. It's much better on me during the evening.

Paul had nice recommendations as I love and own all of them. For you however, I recommend Gendarme. It wears closer to the skin but somehow manages to last.

BTW, others had nice recommends as well as GIT is my fav for professional aptitudes nonetheless, it produces too much sillage and that was a negative factor so, still the original gendarme.

    Blenheim Bouquet (favorite)
    L'Eau par Kenzo (too clean?)
    Guerlain L'Herba Fresca (mint)
L'Eau D'Issey (sample first - goes sour on some, like myself; needed to get the Souffle version - I think they have a 2005 summer version)
    Creed Original Vetiver
    Eau d'Hadrien Extreme
    1805 (similar to L'Eau D'Issey)
    La Base for Him
    L'Occitane Green tea or Vervaine
    Acqua di Bella #1
    MPG Baime
    Fresh's Tobacco Flower
    Frank - Los Angeles
    Fujiyama Homme
    Aqua de Loewe
    Monsieur Balmain

Best to order some decants/samples before. Look forward to hearing what you end up with!

    Creed Original Vetiver

    Further reaffirmations:

    Habit Rouge
    Eau Sauvage

You also might want to sample Beyond Paradise Men, but it will barely be discernible after five hours.... (you would need to refresh it lightly at lunchtime.)

i'll second the Allure Homme, Givenchy Pour Homme and Bulgari Pour Homme --

Allure produces a nice amount of sillage; it last and lasts and lasts -- but i think it could still be very appropriate. i think it's mature without being too mature. i would take someone more seriously in the original version than Allure Sport.

the other 2 wear close to the skin, very unobtrusive. they kind of have the skin scent effect, and i've also gotten the 'hmmmmm, you smell good' with both

How about Inis? Its similar to the original Issey Miyake, only without as much bitterness. There is a slight floral undertone with the lily of the valley note in it and it lasts fairly well on my skin. I ordered mine online in a "blind" purchase, but Caswell Massey now carries it, so if you've got one you can pop into, I'd recommend giving it a test run.

I just thought of another one. Salvatore Ferragamo Subtil for Men.

I know it is not well liked here, but I think it is a nice pleasant scent. I traded it, then wished I still had it, so recently ordered another a bottle from the net. I'm glad I still have the deodorant stick.

    I would like to add:
    Monsieur Galimard
    Worth PH

Both are relatively light leathers, with the Galimard being the more subtle of the bunch, and the longer lasting. You may also wish to consider Habit Rouge EDC. The EDT probably has too much oomph. I've been pretty comfortable wearing the EDC to work.

You can probably wear any scent to work without being obstrusive provided that you do it the "right" way. Try spritzing on your chest or on your arms if you are wearing long sleeved shirts. Then let the people catch occasional wafts of your scent.

When it comes to how many spritzes part, there is no general answer. You need to experiment and find out what works best for you.

This may sound a bit odd, but I would say Odeur 53, on me at least it drys down rather quickly to a scent approximating the smell of freshly laundered clothing right out of the dryer. In other words it smells really nice and is completely inoffensive.
