    Default Vu Ted Lapidus

Can anyone please give me more information about the fragrance Vu from Lapidus? I would like to know some of the notes and classification and when it was launched and discontinued.
It is not listed at all in the basenotes directory ???
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi David,

Vu by Ted Lapidus was launched in 1975, in partnership with L'oreal. I believe it was his first perfume, and yes it was a classic chypre. It was very sadly discontinued in the 1980s. I was still at school when it was launched, it was my first ever fragrance and I loved it. It was immensely popular in the UK, and also in Europe - particularly Italy and France.

    The notes were:

    Top: bergamot, and possibly clementine

Green note: a tiny hint of rosemary and pine needles

Middle: rose and iris, lot's of amber, with hints of lavender and jasmine, trace of white musk

Base: oakmoss, cedar, balsam, with hints of vanilla, clove, labdanum, and a trace of rosewood. There was a trace of civet musk too.

Vu had a heavy base, and the oakmoss with orris and amber gave it a wonderful warmth. It smelled like a walk through a sunny forest in your favorite leather jacket.

It was a gorgeous scent, I never found anything quite like it, though I have always been drawn to chypres.

I recently started making my own fragrances, and it was the memory of Vu that inspired me. I've had a go at trying to recreate it, difficult from memory, but I think I've got pretty close.

    Hope that helps

    Hey, you're welcome!

I only recently joined basenotes, so it was great to see other people asking about this classic scent.
