    Default Maria Callas' Perfume

I've been reading her bio all week & listening to her CDs and naturally, the question of which fragrance she wore has come to mind.
Does anyone on Basenotes happen to know? If not, anyone willing to wager a reasonable guess?

Maria was a client of Chanel's so make of that what you will. Nothing conclusive but very probable deductions can be made.
I also guess Onassis indulged her....

My personal site might interest you though.

I recall reading somewhere, (but I don't remember where), that she wore Chanel No. 5.

I know that Maria Callas LOVED the cologne that Luchino Visconti wore -- Hammam Bouquet by Penhaligon's.

Thumbs up Re: Maria Callas' Perfume

Detchema by Revillon was the Maria Callas perfume

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

What is the source for the Detchema guess?

Incidentally, I once came upon a Biki perfume. Biki was the tailor that Maria Callas used in Milan, though I think the perfume was made later by somebody who got the brand name and so is unrelated to Callas. (In turn, i think Biki was somehow related to Puccini).

I sometimes pass by the house she lived in before she became famous.
Some of those old buildings were beautiful.. it's nice that some are still standing. So grand.

    How interesting!

I saw the holographic Maria Callas concert last year. Weird, but impressive. Alas, holographs don’t wear perfume. I see lots of sites mentioning either Detchema or Chanel No. 5, but always with no better support than “someone said they read it somewhere.” Of course, she could easily have worn both, and any number of others besides.

Supposedly, Visconti’s lover Franco Zeffirelli loved Hammam Bouquet so much, he bankrolled his personal assistant Sheila Pickles’ acquisition of Penhaligon’s.

Being quite a Callas fan, did still not manage to find any info, links and/or any other forms of data about her scent preferences.

However, if the theory and/or allegation about Chanel No. 5 as her (or one of her) signature scent (s) are true, could quite easily imagine this fragrance as a possible signature scent-simple and streamlined, yet also timelessly elegant, attractive and classy, as well as a noticeable stylistic and artistic masterpiece.

I am a Callas fan, a Visconti fan, and a Hammam Bouquet enthusiast. There is genius in all of them.

She is the greatest diva of all time. I read her biography. Onassis dumped her like a piece of trash and "upgraded" to Jackie. Whenever he had a fight with Jackie, he went briefly back to Callas, just to provoke her.

My favorite Aria by Callas is the one posted here. My second favorite is this one. A tour de force:
