Default Help needed!

never thought I'd have to ask this but am quite puzzled: I have a new boyfriend who doesnt's seem to enjoy most of my vast fragrance wardrobe. Mitsouko, Coco, Must de Cartier, Tabac Blond - all "okay" but they lack certain "something" to his nose or just plain irritate him. So, apart from dumping him (obvious solution, but I'm too much in love ), I am trying to find stuff he really likes. So far from what I have he is absoulutely in love with Sensi, likes Angel (although he says it 's a bit too strong), Bois et Fruits and can stand Chergui. Any ideas what I might try according to this?

Thanks! *:-*

L, what a magical time! I'm so happy for you! :-* I never tried Sensi, the bnreviews said soft, clean, floral, with lime topnote and vanilla in the drydowm. He'll be easy to please, and you have a most excellent reason to explore some lovely new fragrances. What are the heartnotes in Sensi?

But no matter what, try Mimosa pour Moi.
Please, spritz responsibly.

Why don`t let him buy a bottle of something he likes for you (soon Valentine`s, and all...)

Good luck with your new love!!!

Maybe take him fragrance shopping with you and see what he reacts positively towards. (and get loads of samples while out and test them together!)

Felicitations Levannah!

My six top picks (from studying your list of his and your likes) below with decriptions, notes and sources.

Valentine's Day is approaching. Can you get samples and have him try & buy?
Aedes for sure will send seven samples for $15. Ask their advice, too. You can get Mollinard and the Serge Lutens on this list.

Sensi contains: Kaffir Lime Leaves, Acacia Farnese, Barley, Cape Jasmine, Benzoin (a vanilla-like scent, warm & soothing), Palisander (similar to Rosewood).

Stephen Burlingham Truly Grandson of Louis Comfort Tiffany, so beautiful hand-blown green bottle, silver fittings, lambskin carrying case. Sophisticated, lovely fragrance down the Sensi alley. *Light, open, beautiful sillage. Green tartly-fruited foral with warm wood dry-down.

Notes: citrus, orris, hyacinth, *white peach, jasmine, red peony, white musk, moss, sandalwood.

Can find at Takashimaya, Barneys, Neiman-Marcus, etc.

Molinard Nirmala. My current favorite. *It has a light jasmine and vanilla-scentedness similar to Sensi but deeper, a little more sensual. It has the candied fruit and warmth of Angel yet is more sophisticated and delicate. *Nirmala never shouts or comes on too strong. It has the woods and fruit combination but is a more tenderly sensual version of SL Bois et Fruit and Bois Feminite, too. Both fresh and candied fruit, exquisite light flowers, soft woods, warmth from vanilla.

Notes: mango, passion fruit, grapefruit and mandarine, jasmine, fleur des iles, tonka bean, sandalwood, vanilla and cedarwood.

Hermes Un Jardin en Méditerranée Quite an amazing yet seemingly simple composition. Got the fresh, open feeling Sensi does, the light woodiness and greeness, also light citrus, soft, fresh flowers. Chic, dry (not sweet), it is great warm weather choice.

Notes: Fig Woods and Leaves, Orange Blossom, Bergamot, White Oleander

The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit -- Celine Ellena composed this exquisite, refreshingly different, fruity, spicy and very contemporary jasmine. Unique, chic and vibrant spring choice.

Notes: Egyptian Jasmine, Black Currant, Cardamom, Ceylon cinnamon, Star Anise, amber, sandalwood.

(not in the database yet, I don't think)

Neiman-Marcus, Takashimaya and Barneys, etc * Luscious Cargo & Luckyscent on-line.

SL Daim Blond Oh so gorgeous. *Perhaps this satisfies your Tabac Blond craving and has the missing "something." When I wear it, I feel like I've borrowed or am snuggling into a boyfriend's very expensive, very soft *lamb suede jacket that still smells faintly of some terribly elegant floral Talc.

Notes: Pallida iris from Tuscany, spicy apricot kernel, Ceylon cardamom, clean accents of a fresh musk, a sprinkling of heliotrope and crystal clear hawthorn.

To satisfy your love of tobacco fragrance and classic fragrances like Mitsouko and also his love of wood, florals and vanilla, you should get a sample of:

Molinard Habinata This is an all-out perfume, great for evenings. Elegant, mysterious, warm woods, soft, sweet ambers, lovely florals, a little fruity which blends beautifully with the tobacco notes to resemble rich, freshly rolled Cuban cigars. get a sample at least.

Notes: Mastic tree resin (tart, green fixative to florals), Cedarwood, Lavender, Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Leather notes, Jasmine, Rose, Peach, Heliotrope, Vanilla, Tobacco, Tonka Bean, Amber, Oakmoss, Musk, Opoponax, Vetiver.

Annick Goutal le Jasmin *If it is that jasmnie note he is responding to and likes lightness this would be a lovely spring choice. Fresh, light jasmine -- not the heady, hot, intoxicating night version -- with a gentle, slightly mysterious, somewhat sassy flick of ginger that nevertheless grounds this fragrance beautifully and with sophistication. Not too strong, young, feminine

Many boutiques and "prestige" department stores. I am not sure if this one is available on line though.

Ummmmm... you seem particular, sophisticated and more educated about fragrance than he.

Narrow his search for both your sake and his -- will take a lot of pressure off him and cut the risk of disappointment (or worse) for you.

So instead of just turing him loose to locate a new scent for you and simply hoping for the best, *wiser in my book to give him 3-5 of your choices as suggestions or guides.

Is there anywhere the two of you could sample MPG George Sand together? Or any of these -- L'Or de Torrente, Beautiful, Cinnabar, Estee, Angelique Encens, Dolce Vita, Halston, La Nuit? Without fail, young men compliment me on L'Or, Beautiful and Halston, and men of all ages (as well as women) compliment me on Estee, Cinnabar, MPG George Sand and Dolce Vita. I just today got a compliment from a man I didn't know on Paloma Picasso.

Sigh... I really don't know. I've never been in your situation, Levannah. I've truly never had to consider anyone but myself when purchasing or wearing fragrance. And it's worked for me. I'm happy you're so in love, but I'm definitely not envious of your fragrance situation. Good luck and let us know how it works out, okay? :-*

Any way you two could sample MPG George Sand together?
If you get the 7 samples form Aedes you surely can. They also carry Maitre Parfumeur et Grantier fragrance. George Sand, elegant and accomplished writer, femme fatale who bathed in milk to keep her famous skin soft and lovely and lover of Chopin? How could the fragrance not be divine?

I agree with George SAnd thanks to generous sampler from LadyL. It is very elegant scent, I cannot imagine anybody to dislike it, it is a masterpiece.

My dear ladies,

I am very grateful for all your suggestions and effort you put into it. THANKS!!!
I will definitely try to get samples of all the aforementioned perfumes and see how he reacts to them. Btw, wore Sensi last night and he couldn't keep his nose out of my neck. Peculiar, eh?

Update: he is taking me to the seaside for a romantic weekend tomorrow afternoon.
It is supposed to be a relaxed time in a small house somewhere on the coast, so it will be casual/sporty, long walks...
(huh, thinking of which, I don't even own any footwear without 10 cm heels).
What should I pack, scentwise???
