Default Valentine's Day Suggestions for the Men

We may (or may not) get some more requests for Valentine's Day recommendations from the fellas so I thought it might be nice to begin a thread for them. *What does everyone think?

If you're up for it, please add your suggestions/recommendations. *I'm not going to get relationship- or age-specific, nor am I going to get category-specific, but please feel free to do so in your comments if you'd like. *Feel free to be specific or just add a link to the fragrance, or just make a list. *And if you suggest a gift box of samples, please list those you'd recommend.

While flipping through the pages of the February issue of Allure magazine, a little corner blurb caught my eye: *"Smell This: LOVE POTIONS". *This addresses the dilemma of whether to give flowers or chocolate by suggesting two fragrances that will cover both:

Frederic Malle's Carnal Flower and Tutti Dolci's Fantasia di Cioccolata.

I've not sampled either. *We've had recent threads on Carnal Flower. *B&BW says of Fantasia di Cioccolata: *"This sophisticated eau de toilette lingers for hours, so you can enjoy the delicious scent of creamy chocolate and luscious berries all day." *I'm quite fond of Tutti Dolci Creme Brulee. *The Tutti Dolci can be found at Bath & Body Works and Victoria's Secret online (anywhere else?).

I guess I'll start with a few suggestions:

Very good, Veronica. *You left off chocolates/candies (for a reason, I'm sure, though I'd not be interested in hearing it). *I didn't realize I needed to specify "fragrance" suggestions since this is, afterall, a fragrance discussion board. *I'm aware that there are many great non-fragrance gift ideas and they can be discussed... in the Off Topic forum. *And FYI, the Nerf n'Strike is not a good gift for Valentine's Day -- anniversary, perhaps -- but it's not safe to play with it around any open flame or while burning the DuraFlame log as darts go astray, not safe around a vase of roses as it can make quick potpourri of roses and then there's all the shattered glass to deal with, definitely not while drinking Champagne or any alcoholic beverage, and never, ever while wearing Mitsouko -- totally inappropriate for Nerf n'Strike. *: Oh, and I almost forgot the most important thing: You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

    LOL!

I must say I am very tempted to suggest some non-strictly perfumic gifts, such as some of my favourite things:

    Artisan Chocolate truffles

(I Highly recommend the Gianduja truffles - both dark and milk; and the Pomegranate truffles - both absolutely to die for!!! The cherry filled ones are also great, and are in the very appropriate shape of a heart)

For Valentine's, make it memorable with Valentino.

I'm stalking a sample of their newest scent, "V," which seems to be getting consistently favorable reviews.

Valentino V Eau De Parfum Spray
--A provocative, imaginative, magical & elegant fragrance
--Contains sparkling blend of woody, floral & oriental notes
--Starts with burst of energy with hint of mandarin & sweet tones of fig
--Centre lies of orange blossom, rose petals & frangipani flowers
--Base combines notes of cedarwood, sandalwood & amber
    --Perfect for special occasions

One Valentine's Day many years ago, in absolute confusion and with great hopes of pleasing me, my husband presented me with a book of poetry (love poems), a gold bracelet, a CD, a box of chocolates, a bottle of my favorite wine, a bottle of Estee (or I should say another bottle of Estee), and a dozen red roses! *I didn't know whether to cry or hug him. *Bless his heart. *:-[

LOL Veronica, on your very complete list. I want the video tape of that evening! Did you include a *lingerie source or are we to imagine the nerf-y couple au natural?

And Alaya...Canadian Ice wines are magnificent! *Our favorites., too. But your previous posts have revealed you to
be a woman of great taste and decernment., so I am not surprizsd. I have noted your other list items! *In our houe,
we *particularly like Inniskillin and one ice wine form Northern NY that I'l get the name of later.

For me, *for V day fragrance, I *want my flowers & candy and together this year. Well, in certain cases. Bring me no Angel!

Three beauties spring to mind *and despite notes of candied fruit and sweets, none is a dreaded gourmond.[/
    size]

Ormonde Jayne Ta'if (like Alaya). Arabian roses and an array of candied fruits and sweetmeats fit for Schaherazade
    http://www.ormondejayne.com/shop_by_...nde_women.php.

Molinard 1849 Nirmala [(EDP) Luscious recreation of the 1956 original. Not the cheap, discounters stuff. It is what *Angel wishes it could be.
Lovely balance of fresh and candied fruit against warm, sweet jasmin and other white flowers, including white rose.
Top notes of mango, passion fruit, grapefruit and mandarine.; middle notes of jasmine, rose,
fleur-des-isles; base notes of tonka bean, sandalwood, rare orchid vanilla and cedarwood
    .

    http://www.aedes.com/product.php?product_d=1764

better still, let Aedes, give this their stunning signature gift wrap with fresh flowers.
    http://www.aedes.com/home.php

Keiko Mecheri Gourmandises* How do you spell Turkish Delight? Why Gourmandises, of course. *This does indeed evoke a Bazaar selling the rose water
scented praline and nougat Turkish candy that comes packed in powdered sugar. * Soft, warm, complex, a hint of powder down low and tangy, exotic safron
at the top to make this a very adult "bitter-sweet" *and mysterious experience.

    Sigh . . . Floris China Rose

I want this one sooo badly but when I wore ce soir ou jamais one night when we went out my guy seemed to like it so much and since he has never reacted so positively to any other perfume of mine I figure I should get this rose scent instead of the Floris one . . but I like that one better

OK Sorry for the rant I just have been depressed about this sad state of affairs The two are just so similar I don't think I could really justify getting them both (he seems to be able to tell the difference though > .) Oh well. . .

I suppose this isn't really a V-Day suggestion 'cause I'm planning on getting this perfume for myself but I suppose deep down I wish he would get me the Floris so I can have them both without feeling too excessive

I think Ayala's suggestion of S-Room's 100% Love is just too perfect. First of all there's the name. And lastly, how can you go wrong with something that includes chocolate and roses?

Oscar the Grouch you are not!

Your husband sounds like a wonderful Valentine! Poetry, Chocolate, Music, Jewelry, Wine and Perfume - what could possibly be better than that?
By the way, is Estee your favourite perfume?

    *Blush*
Thanks for the compliments, Lizzie, but I am not alone here! The same should go to every single lady and gentelman on this board!

I love icewines period. I am yet to find one that I don't like... I guess my taste is not that refined yet. I think it's just my sweet tooth approach to grown up drinks. If it's sweet, I like it!
I will take your advice and try Inniskillin ASAP.

Really great suggestions for fragrances here! Some are going straight onto my to-try list.

Well, looking back, I guess it was sweet. The roses had arrived early in the day via delivery to my office and, really, I thought that was more than enough since we were also having dinner at the Italian restaurant where he had proposed to me. So when he showed up with all the other gifts, I just sort of felt sad. I mean, you know... it was Valentine's Day, not Christmas. ;D ;D

It's very special. Yes, it's my favorite. It's also the one I cannot review and it's the only fragrance I have that I lose the scent of while wearing. I can smell it on my clothes when I take them off, and I can smell it in a room where I've been or in my car, but not on my skin. Baffling. :-/
