We just recently submitted nominations for this category for the "best of Basenotes" awards and should be voting soon.

I can't remember what all I nominated, but I do remember MyQueen and Miss Dior Cherie. I think I nominated another one or two as well. I haven't gotten to sample Youth Dew Amber Nude yet.

I'm kind of waiting for the nominations to come in. I know I want to try both Youth Dew Amber Nude and Miss Dior Cherie before I make a final vote, as I've heard good things about both.
At this point Black Aoud by Montale has impressed me the most, but it's a dark horse, and not likely to have broad appeal.

Though I didn't fall madly in love for any new releases, overall 2005 was a good year fragrance wise.

    Releases that were interesting imho:
-KenzoSummer and KenzoFlower Oriental both by Alberto Morillas.
-Pure Mimosa by Yves Rocher / Annick Menardo.
-Jardin sur le Nil by Hermes / Jean Claude Ellena.
-Cèdre by Serge Lutens and Borneo 1834 by Salons Shiseido.
-Allure Sensuelle by Chanel / Jacques Polge.
-Alien by Thierry Mugler and MyQueen by Alexander McQueen both by Dominique Ropion.

Good news of 2005: chypres are back!
    -Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.
-Emporio Armani City Glam for Her.

There was even a not-too-bad fruity floral: Rockin' Rio by Escada / Philippe Romano.

I'm still waiting to smell Amber Nude and the new release by Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir to make a final judgment.

Out of all of them launched in 2005, I have to go with 'Fantasy' by Britney Spears. I didn't expect to like it, but I wound up loving it. "Pink Sugar" by Aqualine was just too much - too heavy for me, but 'Fantasy' gets it right - just the perfect amount of sweetness. Not to mention the beautiful pink jeweled bottle - like an artifact out of Arabian Nights! Most of all, I love when a fragrance surprises you - it promises to be nothing special, and yet in the end it blows all the others away. My only disappointment is that Britney did not get to promote this one due to the baby on the way. "Curious" was different, but "Fantasy" is truly the mark of a master perfumer, imho. People laugh at that "cupcake" note in Fantasy, but in the end it's that one note that kicks ass and sends the whole fragrance spiraling to the top.

Sad to say I haven't sniffed ONE of the new launches this year!

They usually don't interest me, but as you can see from comments here, once in a while there's a real gem in one of them.

I'm recovering from major surgery, but hopefully a trip to the mall will be around the corner and SOON! I'm getting cabin fever.
