    Re-introducing Mr Cranky

Those of you with long memories, may remember Mr Cranky. For those uninformed, Mr Cranky is a machine, who loves fragrances but has no sense of smell. This is why he is cranky.

If you feed Mr Cranky, the name of a fragrance, he will then suggest a few you may like.

    How does he do this

Well, Mr Cranky is a nosy machine, and looks through all the Basenotes wardrobes and works it all out using hard sums.

    Testing him out

If you reply to this thread with the name of a fragrance, Mr Cranky will reply with the name of others you may like. If you can then let Mr Cranky know if you do like them or not, we can then refine the process!

As an example, if you like KNIZE TEN, Mr Cranky thinks you will also like:

    Bel Ami by Hermes
    Passage d'Enfer by L'Artisan Parfumeur
    Habit Rouge by Guerlain

    disclaimer

The results are a little odd for women's fragrances, as there aren't as many female members with wardrobes.

Okay! This should be interesting. You just want one fragrance, right?

(if we disregard Guerlain fragrances the top answers are:

Musc Ravaguer by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle
Noir Epices by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle)

    Awe, he was tired!

I think as we get more and more female members making wardrobes, the results should improve!

Ohhhh here's one I'd love to have duplicated - Inoui! I've got my wardrobe (that needs to be updated) in - just click under Maye and W.C. Go go, Mr. Cranky! Inoui is my favorite perfume.

Well gosh, Mr. C. Nice try but I'm surprised Aliage wasn't on your list. That's about the only scent I can think of that Inoui even faintly resembles. I do have everything on the list except Daim Blond, and this blonde dame will pass that one up. Appreciate your efforts!

This is too cool! Thanks for doing this Grant.

What does Mr Cranky think about:

    Bogner Wood Woman
    Hermes Vetiver Tonka
    Gobin Daude Seve Exquise

By the way, I have a wardrobe but I don't know how to create a link to it.

    Fufu,

Ava Luxe has just introduced Inoui to their list of Rare Fragrances. I'm not familiar with the original, but unless my chemistry has gone totally awry with this one, I can't believe it is close to the original. It's not bad but seems to have a key ingredient missing. All I get is a scent - nothing distinctive at all. Their dupe of Peau de Soie was dead on to Feminite du Bois but their supplier discontinued it so I think they had to formulate it in-house. I sent the last bottle back 'cause it was nowhere near what was originally offered.

Just thought I would let you know in case you wanted to try a sample as a back up to your "real stuff."

One thing about Mr Stanky Cranky, is that he doesn't recommend fragrances that smell alike -- he recommends fragrances that other people that like that fragrance also like. He will get more accurate, the more people make wardrobes.

Thanks JAG! *Well, I've just got to give it a try. *Inoui is similar in some ways to Aliage but is much, much more. *For me, it's the perfect autumn scent. *I've dug into my precious stash already.
