    Default Favorite Bottles?

I don't think we've had this question for awhile: What are your favorite fragrance bottles?

I love the classic Shalimar bottle, which recalls at once a veiled harem woman, a peacock, and, of course, one of the famed fountains from the Gardens of Shalimar from which the scent takes its name. There's the classic, iconic L'Air du Temps bottle with the paired Lalique doves. The Opium parfum bottle is based on the layered boxes called inro that hang from kimonos, but with a little peephole to show the forbidden juice hidden within. (Oddly enough, for a juice named after something associated with China, Yves Saint Laurent chose Japanese iconography to adorn the Opium bottles, boxes, and ads.)

But, of course, my favorite bottles is still the classic, crystalline Chanel parfum bottle, as exemplified by No. 5. The perfect modern lines for the perfect modern scent, as timeless as the juice it holds.

hmmmm... I love good bottle design!
Comme des Garcons 2, the cool, reflactive modern flat bottle, and the big, chunky, minimal designs of odeur 71 and 53 too.
The Different Company... love the square bottle with the 3-tiered screw-on aluminum caps.
Serge Lutens, designs from both lines, the bell-jar shape and the long rectangular designs I like.
vintage Guerlain small pure parfum bottles like Mitsouko, love that antique feel and the type design of the label.
I'll second the Chanel bottles too.

Love the No. 5 bottle! A few that I absolutely adore (even though I don't necessarily care for the juice inside all of them):

    Agent Provocateur
    Rive Gauche
    Eau des Merveilles
    Yvresse
    Yohji
    Black Cashmere
    Creed
    Floris
    Boucheron Trouble
    VC&A First
    Trussardi (classic)
    Dolce Vita
    Paris
    Bandit and Fracas
    The Guerlain Aqua Allegoria bottles
The Bill Blass -- Nude, Basic Black and Hot
    L'Or de Torrente
Must de Cartier -- original cig lighter style bottle, not the new one
    Lolita Lempicka
Safari (women) -- bottle and box
Balmain -- Vent Vert and Miss Balmain
Niki de Saint Phalle -- bottle and box
Alexander McQueen -- Kingdom and the Summer Ltd Ed
    Lauren
    Etro
    EL Knowing
    Omnia
    Jess
    Samsara
    Nanette Lepore
Versace Crystal Noir bottle (positively wild about this bottle)

That's all I can think of right now.

I think the Marc Jacobs for women parfum bottle is beautiful, very elegant, simple and modern, one I would consider getting just for the bottle!

I am not a bottle person! As long as the spray works and hits where I want I am a happy bunny.

I like the Chanel bottles though simple, plain and solid.

Socalwoman!! That's quite an impressive list!

My long-time fave is the little red-capped black snuff bottle for Joy parfum: simple, classic, opulent.

Many of my favorite's are mens' scents: the chunky, partially frosted bottle of Guerlain's Vetiver and the quilted clear glass of Eau Sauvage.

I'm with you Donna. While I can certainly appreciate the beautiful design of some bottles, I prefer a rectangular bottle along the lines of Fracas and Bandit. Easy to hold and spritz. Sometimes I feel like I'm paying more for the bottle than the fragrance.

I used to feel the same way.

I wanted to list the Joy also, Mark, but didn't quite know what to say, so thanks! "little red-capped black snuff bottle for Joy parfum: simple, classic, opulent." That's the one I threw in the trash many years ago. :-[ :'(

I love the Bulgari BLV bottle and the Black bottle.

Lolita Lempicka for sure. Asja's wooden-laquered-look bottle is pleasing.

I also love the Trouble bottle that they are pulling from stores.
Scent is such a lovely, simple pleasure!

    You're crazy!

...but I love the Rive Gauche can, too. It's so unique, like the Turkish-inspired, onyx-and-turquoise-inlaid silver bangle of a fashionable Parisian woman stretched out to make the bottle. It's fantastic, the perfect chic accessory.
