Default Allow me to introduce myself!

    Hi, I'm Redjake!

I'm relatively new to the world of fragrances. A former SO introduced me to this amazing world, and I've been hooked since.

I have some exciting news - I made my first unassisted purchase yesterday! I was looking for something that wasn't easily and immediately decipherable by the common nose, and I believe I found it. I probably sampled 25 different fragrances until I found one remotely interesting to me. I guess my ex turned me off to the "simpleton" fragrances.

I wanted something as unique as 31 Rue Cambon, but not quite as classy. Something with more attitude. And dear salesladies: I DON'T WANT ANYTHING "SPORTY."

This is what grabbed my attention and didn't let go:

Jo Malone - Velvet Rose & Oud
"Darkest Damask rose. Rich and textural, wrapped with smoky oud wood. Spiked with clove, decadent with praline."

I have a hard time separating the notes at this point since I'm still a newbie, but the scent brings to mind pure romance for me. That moment in time when you look into someone's eyes and you realize you love them to their core. That's what this fragrance does for me!

It's long-lasting compared to the others I've worn. It's also a gut-punch if you spray too much. I absolutely love it.

    Have a great week, everyone!

Redjake - I love your post. I am someone who doesn't mind a sport flanker, but I love 31 Rue Cambon as well. I do not know anything by Jo Malone, but it sounds like you know what you like.

By sampling, do you mean you wore them? I've bought fragrances that I liked sampling in the store, but that eventually weren't my favorite after a few hours of wearing them.

You can order samples from a decant shop (2 ml is plenty) and test wearing fragrances to find your next one; if you ever need to purchase another one. I just order samples, but pass on ever buying a full bottle, unless it's Chanel.

No, I mean sampled in the store. Thanks for the pro-tip! I'll have to purchase some decants for future samples. I do recall that fragrances smell different based on your body chemistry, clothing, soap/lotion/shampoo usage, etc. Thanks a million :-)

    Welcome.
Your ex-SO did you a huge favor.

Do you see how much better real perfumes are compared to mass produced dreck
    Do you

Thanks so much, everyone! What a warm and inviting place thus far!

Yes, I do owe my ex for throwing some pretty unique fragrances my way in our short time together. Her choices in perfume were as enigmatic and mystical as her persona, and I miss her dearly.
