    Default A Scent Library?

Is there anywhere to go to find out just what vetiver smells like? Or bergamot? Or tonka? Or one of the other various "notes" that people describe?

I want to learn what it is about cologne X or cologne Y that I like.

Do I like Green Irish Tweed for the Verbena, or the ambergris? Or is it the combination that does it?

Do I hate Chaps because of the Benzoin, or the Orris?

I just want to learn what it is about each fragrance that I like, but I have no idea how to tell them apart.

    Regards,

    Dr B

PS - Yes, I realize this sounds like I'm WAY too into this...I think I am.

essential oils are useful for this. you can buy them online or in stores.

    Excellent.

Know of any stores that generally carry them?

Ah! I just posted a similar question in the DIY forum; I wish I would have found this thread first!

They're a bit internet-unfriendly in ordering, but Le Labo fragrances of NY has an 'Olfactionary' which is 40 single notes, a scent dictionary if you will.

You have to email or phone to get prices.. I know the 3 scent sample set is $45, but I haven't asked about the Olfactionary yet.

    Hope this helps

This is what I've been hoping to find. I emailed them for ordering information.

I just heard back. And although I fully expected a high price for a collection as large as the Olfactionary, but I was a little surprised to hear $490 USD. * One can buy 40 minis of mixed cologne for less than that. *But maybe the samples are stronger than cologne, or maybe some cost out of proportion to the rest.

Um, wow! I'd have to agree with your take. This moves it from 'splurge' to 'wish'. I'll bet it's all edp or pure parfum.

    Bummer though.
