Default Chanel Egoiste vs Platinum Egoiste

    Hi guys,

I've read review about Egoiste and they were almost all positive... I've also read that it's a nice clubbing fragrance with great sillage. Do you agree?

I must admit I haven't test either of them, but I will do next time.

I am 24, do you think it fits to my age?

Where is the difference to Platinum Egoiste? Which one has given you most compliments??

    Thanks!!

Egoiste is a very different animal from Platinum Egoiste. I see no common basis for comparison. I personally prefer E over PE during cool seasons. It is a sweet anise and sandalwood fragrance which is quite smooth and nice. On the other hand, PE blooms during summer in a quite seductive way.

    So here's my two cents.

E during coll weather & PE during hot.

They're totally different. Platinum Egoïste is a light woody floral scent while Egoïste is an everlasting oriental with a distinct rose note.
Really, they're not comparable, and both would fit your age, it just depends on your preferences and the type of scents you're looking for.

Hehe, it seems that your life is all about the clubbing, as your threads are always filled in that manner.

Well, these both scents are great.

Egoiste: Pure Oriental, syrapy with vanilla and smoky sandalwood. Very deep, complex scent with tremendous lasting power. Sillage is great, too. Overall, a-m-a-z-i-n-g fragrance. Fits your age just fine, no problemos.

Platinum: Crispy, fresh woods with sweet spices. Very sexy scent with lively quality. Lasts long time and no complains with sillage either.

Compliments? Haven`t got a single one with neither, but I`m sure they are both VERY likeable.

I generally agree with both these descriptions. I generally don't like sweet orientals and it took me a while to warm up to Egoiste. But now I really like it a lot and don't perceive it as overly sweet (as I do scents like Envy and Allure). I think of it as creamy sandalwood, more than syrupy.

Where Egoiste is creamy, Platinum is dry and spicy. "Crispy" is a good adjective for it. With Platinum, I enjoy the drydown after an hour or so, but find it a little too sharp before that. Really two very different scents, but both very good. If I could only have one, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Egoiste over Platinum.

By the way, is it just me or does Fahrenheit strike anyone else as sharing similarities with Egoiste (but less creamy--dryer with a more biting edge).

I happened to be in a purchasing mood the other day when I walked over to the chanel section at my local frag counter. I looked into platinum egoiste , (they were out of regular egoiste) , so i sampled the platinum. Personally I wasn't impressed with platinum egoiste, it's not bold, there's something missing, maybe to subtle for me. I know that regular egoiste is much respected and if that was there I think I would have considered buying it overall.
But, being that I had already decided I was walking out with a new bottle, I picked up Chanel Pour Monsiuer concentre. All it took was one spray of this super concentrated stuff and i was hooked. I would HIGHLY recomend it over any chanel except for regular egoiste.
PMC is a sweeter, less floral fragrance but it still has that vanilla and lavender cream of the E and PE. Thus far I have found that it wears nicely on a hot day or warm evening when one would hit up the club. Plus the lasting power is INSANE. Either way, you mentioned age, and I find this to be especially true with all the chanels: forget what anyone says about any of them being for older men, or for formal use or whatever. I'm 22, I have the money to buy them, they all smell damn good me. It's like a young rapper driving a bentley, age doesn't mean a thing when you have good taste. And no girl at the club is gonna think you smell like an old man with ANY chanel on. If anything she's gonna be happy you don't smell like Axe or polo sport.

I think Platinum Egoiste is horrible. It is one of the dryest, most boring scents I have ever smelled. You should try it, because every scent is worth a try, but I really hate it. Egoiste on the other hands I have unfortunately not tried yet but I would love to. The reason that people are saying they didn't see it is that the only place in the United States where one can find it is in Chanel boutiques.

i agree with giraffe. i have not tried egoiste yet (where do you find this???) but would love to. egoiste platinum i did try after dragging a few of my friends to sephora (i got a few "wait... why are you going there? it's a make-up store if you didn't know." s). it was very unimpressive and reminded me a bit like Mambo; in a bad way. may try it again sometime but for now, it's the first chanel I have not fallen in love with. one of my friends did try No. 5 and it smelled heavenly on her so im just thinking Chanel had an off day or something.

I love both scents and i also think that they are nothing alike. Egoiste is just beautiful and very masculine in a spicy ambery kind of way and platinum egoiste i don't go crazy for the top notes but i like them and think are almost regular men's cologne but then it changes on my skin and becomes a much better animal after a while, and at the drydown gets very very sexy.
I keep using these (along with many other chanels) very frequently.

Many others have given accurate reviews of these two, so I'll just add a note or two about how I view these. Platinum to me smells a little like a "cologne guy" fragrance. It's nice, I like it, and think it would work for a range of ages, but something about it makes me want to say many younger guys may not like it. Egoiste is a winner.

Pour Monsieur Concentree is great as well. It's a classic "cologne" smell too, but more interesting and richer than PE, and for me at least, the stuff lasts forever. And I don't smell it everywhere, as seems to be the case with PE. When I used to club, PMC was often my frag of choice for that. It also worked great for formal events.

Cool Re: Chanel Egoiste vs Platinum Egoiste

Though not my all-time favorite, Egoiste is a great Oriental.
Best in the cool of the evening, and fine in your age group, provided you too, are cool. . .

Egoiste is a very versatile fragrance: It could be worn to the office, whether you're the clerk or the CEO; Romantic encounters, whether with your own or someone else's wife; To play high stakes poker at the casino, whether you win or lose. In fact Egoiste could be worn most anywhere as long as the environment is neither humid nor lower class.

So if you intend to get into a scuffle on cheap beer over the attentions of a lap dancer, the joint better have air conditioning. If not, reach for the Platinum.

Clubbing? PE does have strong sillage, but you would do as well or better with Joop or A*Men.

Personally, I'd reccomend Cristobal or Rochas Man, which are improved versions of Joop and A*Men---just be sure to overspray to compensate for any possible subtlety.

One final note: Interestingly, though Egoiste is unmistakeably masculine, many women enjoy wearing it -- see Jaipur, Givenchy Gentleman, and other men's Orientals in the Female Discussion Forum. ( They also love the men who wear them, too.)

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Mario

I was trying to figure out the "victor" of this match up myself. Recently, I have tested Platinum Egoiste, Allure Homme, and Allure Homme Sport. All had amazing longevity on my skin, but I found the Allures a little sweet. The PE had a sophisticated classiness that I liked, and I was going to make that my first Chanel. However, I remember all the old threads recommending Egoiste to oriental lovers. After reading many reviews and reformulation rumors etc., I think (right now!) the winner is going to be Egoiste as a blind buy! Although I thought the Allures were a little sweet, I found them definetly wearable, and I hope that Egoiste isn't too sweet, even though I have a feeling it is supposed to be headed in that direction. Now I have to decide if I should go for the Cologne Concentree or EdT. pffft so many choices. or maybe I should just stick to the original Allure Homme. Well, anyways, glad to be on the new board, and it looks like my indecision followed me here!

I was 20 when I wore Egoiste. It hasn't lost my sight since. Modern conventions prefer you to wear something aquatic at your age to suggest your active yet sexy lifestyle. Back in my day, you wore something complex, sophisticated, and heavier. It was about being different, somebody, and yourself at the same time.

Be a man, at your age, you'll soon discover what being YOU means and couldn't care less what fashion trends and social dictation will tell you to wear.

Maybe Egoiste didn't identify my age group back then, but maybe I was more serious than I was for my age, but I definitely knew it smelled like my kind of thing, so I couldn't care less what other people thought!

Platinum is totally another frame of mind, sophisticated, but young (at heart, perhaps), passionate and sensual yet plays along the rules of the game. Original, however, does what he wants, and seeks no forgiveness whatsoever!

At your age however, I wore ck One. Back then it was totally a big deal, it definitely smelled less "manly" but became the standard and everything else marketed for men followed suit or was just vulgar for that time. Then funny how 2 years later Mugler wanted to create the anti-fresh perfume and create A*Men.

Pick your passion is all I have to say.

Egoiste Concentree is an absolutely wonderful fragrance that can we worn whenever you want to wear it - regardless of season. There is nothing "typical" about it.

In terms of Egoiste vs Platinum Egoiste - Egoiste/Egoiste Concentree are well worth owning, Platinum Egoiste is not.

I gave up on PE a few weeks ago due to longevity issues. It's been used as an air freshener for my apartment in the meantime. Today I put some on my wrist just to play around at 5:20pm and it still smells rather potent at 11:39pm. What could have possibly happened?

I feel like it's a different fragrance today. At the same time I realize how linear and "average" it is compared to the finer scents. It reminds me of an insert in a fashion magazine or the whiff of "beauty" you get when you walk into a high end department store.

I still like it but not as much as I once did...just a few weeks ago.

I want to bring this back. I have PE and love it. I have Allure too which is bit soft for me but is alright. John Varvatos, Gucci Envy and Boss 6--that's the extent of sweetness that I am willing to tolerate.

I tried Egoiste on a pretty warm day and wanted to puke. Ended up showering just to get it off of me. Found it disgustingly sweet. But I want to give it another chance.

Was it the warm weather or is it really that much sweeter than Envy or John Varvatos? I really want to like Egoiste.

Egoiste on the other hand is so well done, especially the drydown. Smooth and creamy vanilla, slight rose and a hint of tobacco..amazing.

Kinda bummed that I missed out on the Egoiste concentree on ebay that ended recently.

On the other hand , Platinum egoiste keeps amazing me with how magically it switches from top to middle to base notes . It takes me for a journey, starting from a fresh shower feeling, all the way into a beautiful Geranium and lavender garden with oak trees and amber surrounding it .
    It's beautiful .

I like Egoiste over PE. E is much more syruppy and sweet and has great lasting power. It's also pretty recognizable and there aren't much fragrances out there that smell the same IMO.
PE is together with the Allure range the only Chanel fragrances I really don't like. They just have something that doesn't do it for me.

Just got the Concentrée today and I do think it's maybe a bit more ideal for cool weather than Egoiste EDT. It almost reminds me a bit of DK Fuel for men and has a touch of booziness. Richer and more dense than the EDT. I'll probably pick up a bottle of the EDT also, just to have a lighter version-- because the Concentrée IS pretty intense; It almost makes my airways feel a bit scratchy because of the eugenol spiciness!

Egoiste is sweeter, with creamy sandalwood and the rose is great. They are very different animals, PE is more strict and severe while Egoiste is welcoming. I will second Bokaba's comment: get a sample of Bois des Iles in EDT. Perhaps you'll like it more than Egoiste, they're quite similar.

PE is one of Chanel's worst fragrances imo. It's a drab fresh fougere with no longevity and very little character, beyond smelling cold, sharp, and a bit metallic. I'm really not sure what they were going for with that scent.

The original Egoiste is a much nicer scent. Beautiful sandalwood accord built into it. But I'm not really sure if it has stood the test of time. The plush-smelling spices and odd stewed fruits in the top smell outdated to me. They're really polite and laid back notes - maybe too much so. Anyway, I'd go with Egoiste over Platinum any day of the week.

True, but Platinum Egoiste was created to target the youth. Egoiste began not to sell for Chanel, so they needed an updated vibe. The potpourri Egoiste smell doesn't smell current for me. I can see how some may still like it.

I definitely prefer Platinum Egoiste myself. Original Egoiste has an awful animalic type note in it that turns my stomach (maybe civet or rosewood?) Anyway, it's the same note I smell in Habit Rouge, Shalimar, & to some extent in Rive Gauche. And it's a big no no to my nose. It just immediately reminds me of something a much older person would wear. (but then again, I hate animalic notes & most older & powerhouse retro type scents in general).

I completely understand what you're saying, and agree that Egoiste is dissimilar to the bulk of recent men's cologne releases. I also understand that this difference is probably what caused Chanel to think the youth demographic might regard Egoiste as outdated or not smelling "current." At my age (46) I no longer care about that stuff, and I like Egoiste whether or not it is similar to recent trends in male perfumery.

I prefer Platinum Egoiste although this is a recent and surprising realization, personally. I now have Bois des Iles which scratches itches Egoiste was not relieving satisfactorily.

I have a bottle of Platinum sitting on my dresser that I am taking back to Sephora. To me it didnt seem like the usual Chanel approach and uniqueness. To the younger demographic it feels like they wanted something to knock Aqua Di Gio off the block with a year round scent strong enough for winter but light enough for Summer. The metallic note hits me and just stays. As for Egoiste I havent seen it anywhere. What stores still carries it?

Platinum Egoiste was reformulated as well, i guess sometime around 2000 along with other Chanel "masculines". The older juice (slightly yellow) was superstrong and didn't have that fresh/soapy vibe the current stuff (clear fluid) has. The older PE was...interesting in its vulgarity, I don't particularly like the current tame version, though it's a huge hit with the young girls.

Egoiste is one of a kind. Very alternative for a mainstream fragrance. Lasts forever.

You can usually find it at Neiman Marcus or Saks. Other than that you would have to get it on the Chanel website. Other sites are overpriced or always out of stock.
